WAYNESVILLE, Ga. — Dominic Scelzi is opening the season in his family-owned No. 41 sprint car this weekend in Texas.
Scelzi will venture to Hunt County Raceway in Greenville on Friday and to Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale on Saturday with the ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprints. It will mark his debut at both dirt tracks.
"We're really excited to head to a couple of new tracks and return to the Midwest," he said. "I always enjoy racing in that part of the country. It's been a while so it'll be great to see some familiar faces from that region as we compete in the Midwest throughout the next couple of months."
Scelzi last competed in The Lone Star State in 2020 when he raced at four different tracks in May and June. He picked up a podium, two top fives and three top-six outings during the four races.
"We were last there during COVID when everything was shut down in California," he said. "I remember we had some good runs at the different tracks in Texas. I think it was our first time visiting most tracks so hopefully we can have similar success this weekend."
Scelzi drove for Roth Motorsports last weekend during a High Limit Racing event hosted by Golden Isles Speedway. He kicked off the Deuces Wild show on Thursday when he qualified 20 th quickest, advanced from seventh to sixth in a heat race and maneuvered from 17 th to 13 th in the A Main. The four positions gained were the third most.
The weekend concluded on Saturday with Scelzi improving his qualifying run, going 12 th quickest. He again picked up a position in a heat race, this time finishing fourth. The night wrapped up with a 14th-place result in the main event.
"Qualifying is so crucial and it set us behind each night," he said. "We were able to make some progress in the heat race both nights as well as the in the feature on Thursday, but the overall results of the weekend weren't what we hoped for. It was definitely a learning weekend at a new track. Thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth, Todd and Brent Ventura, and Toyota for having me run the first four High Limit shows with Roth Motorsports."
