The MR Man left his unique mark and a lasting legacy
Our longtime great friend Lloyd Collins, who has lost his short but valient battle with cancer, will be remembered for not just the wonderful racing photos he left behind, but most of all his unbridled passion for the racing and the people who loved it as he did.
Lloyd was a great people person first and foremost and he found many ways over the years to be involved with the sport he loved so he could develop as many friendships as possible. And in the end that was what it was all about for MR, the people and the friendships he made that lasted a lifetime.
Long before he ever took an interest in picking up a camera, he got his hands dirty working on the race cars including serving on Hall of Famer Tom Charles' crew for many years.
He then joined the RacinBoys as a regular in studio presense for several years on our Saturday monring "Track Talk" show. Those were fun times for sure.
Then, Lloyd discovered his love for photogrraphy which became the perfect match with his racing passion, especially the dirt late models he cherished the most. He was a huge fan of "Mr. Smooth" Billy Moyer, but in thruth he was a fan of all the drivers and a big supporter of all things Lucas Oil MLRA and Lucas Oil Speedway. He attended the Show-Me 100 every year it was at West Plains and later Wheatland.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to ever come in contact with the "MR Man" knew they met someone they had known forever and who was never afraid to let you in on everything in his World, so it's no surprise to anyone who knew him best that he would share with us all his recent health battle and allow us to pray and support him. He was a true friend and will be forever missed.
God Bless Lloyd Collins and our heartfelt sympathies to Rochelle and his family at this most difficult time!
LLOYD COLLINS 1958-2024
Lloyd “MR” Dean Collins was born on September 4th, 1958, in Kansas City, MO, to parents Ellis “Lucky” and Janice Collins. He was the oldest of two children. Anyone who knew Lloyd knew his love for racing ran deep. This love started in early childhood when he spent his weekends at Riverside watching the dirt track races with his parents and sister, Cassie. In 1995 he met his wife, Rochelle, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Lloyd was scheduled to have surgery at St. Luke's and Rochelle was working the reception desk. While she was busy at work, that didn’t stop Lloyd from asking her out to lunch and the rest is history. Together they blended their family, sharing three children, Shane, Michelle, and Joshua.
His love for cars and racing continued through the decades leading to his career in insurance as an auto claims adjuster working with his dad Lucky before transitioning to Country Companies in 1996. He progressed through his career until he retired in 2019. Even before retiring from Country Companies, his love for racing led to an even deeper love in Dirt Track Photography, where FastTrack Photos was born. This led to many opportunities, including his position as a traveling photographer, with the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). If you couldn’t find Lloyd on a Friday or Saturday evening, you could almost bet he was at the track doing what he loved, dodging cars to get those great shots.
Lloyd passed away, surrounded by family and loved ones on March 25th, 2024. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents Janice and Lucky Collins, and his daughter Amie Collins. He is Survived by his wife Rochelle Collins, children Shane (Tiffany) Massing, Michelle (Deron) Collins, and Joshua (Nick) Williams, and grandchildren Sierra, Zachary, Dakota, Junior, Jesse, and Kinsley. He is also survived by his sister Cassandra (Bud) Ellis, and niece Breezi (Jerrod) Maciel.
