BETHANY, Iowa — May 11th-96 cars total in 6 exciting classes overflowed the pit area. B features are more uncommon now days, but Bethany ran 2 of them. The fans entered the granstands for some of the best racing this year.

Emods, 24 strong, so a B feature was scheduled. #1SG Vince Matthew's won the B feature. #54L Chris Dishong started his season at Bethany Speedway by showing he is still one of the smoothest Emod drivers around by winning his heat and crossing the finish line first in the feature. Later in tech an issue with an intake spacer resulted in a DQ. So the win was picked up by #11M Lane Matthew's. #H2K Coleman Browning gained 5 spots to finish second. A strong run for #3 Jared Hillyard resulted in a third place finish. #14H Blake Hayes gained six spots to finish fourth as #14 Gary Ainsworth finished fifth.

Next up was the Pure Stock with 24 entries, which looks to have a very stellar field this year. Again, another B feature was on hand. #17c Alvie Christofferson took the win. Front row starter in the A feature, #11J Jake Starmer, took the lead at the drop of the green flag and brought #55T Mich Ross with him into second. Both drivers ran every lap in that order to finish one and two. #19x Bill Munson fell to fifth at one point but made his way back to finish third. Christofferson gained a strong 11 positions from the B feature to finish fourth. While #11s Tyler Starmer finished fifth.

The Bmod class saw 15 fast cars take the green. Front row starters #211 Tim Eaton and #73 Truman Asher jumped to first and second. #66x Chris Wright filled the third position. Those three ran the entire race there to finish one, two, three. #20 Chad Fuller and daughter, #17R Rylee Fuller made it a family battle back and fourth to the checkered with Chad finishing fourth and Rylee fifth.

The Late Model class made their first appearance at Bethany Speedway since the mid 90s. Eight cars signed in for opening night which was a good sign of what's possible. #7 Shayne Bailey, who grew up in the stands watching some of the legends in Northwest Missouri racing, has become one of the drivers to beat no matter what class he's piloting a car in. Bailey lead every lap of his heat and feature to take win number one this year at Bethany Speedway. #67 Isaac Dotson had mechanical problems in the hotlaps and had to park his car for the night. But #44H Huey Jacob's gave up his ride for Dotson to race. Dotson went on to finish a strong second. #10 John Willard III had a strong showing to finish third. #65 Jon Bonning finished fourth with #55D Mike Dotson finishing fifth.

15 Stock Cars put on a show with side by side racing every lap. #34x Mich Ross lead every lap to pick up the win. #37 Randy Foote, who drove in the A mod class a few years ago, showed some strength by finishing second. #16s Chris Dishong, who was one of a hand full of drivers doing double duty, and started shotgun on the field, gained a strong 12 spots to finish 3rd. #20j Jayden Bears put everybody on notice that he will be a contender all season with fourth. #53 Sam Luehrs has really progressed nicely in the last year and turned that into a fifth place finish.

The Compacts made their first appearance ever as a regular class. 10 cars was a promising number to start the season. #007T Harold Robb Jr seemed to be very compatible with Bethany Speedway. Robb took about 2-3 laps to work his way around #1/2 John Willard to take the win. Willard was second. #35 Chris Wright looked good in third. $5J Jeremy Sims finished fourth and #9x Samuel Moore gained a couple spots to crack into the top 5 at the checkered.

Night one of the 2024 season started off great. A few things to adjust and make things better is always the focus. Next race will be this Saturday, May 18th, with the same classes. Every week only $5 to get in the grandstands.

Thank you to all the fans and racers who made opening night a great night to build on in 2024.
