Axsom shows the way at Lincoln Park Speedway

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. — A jaw dropping 55 sprint cars checked into the opening night of Maverick Mayhem with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car and the Maverick Winged Sprint Series representing 15 states and 2 countries.

When we released the field for the green, Brady Bacon would be the first to continue the night with the “jaw dropping” theme as he would spin in turn 2 on the start. Aryrton Gennetten and Emerson Axsom would lead the field once more to green. Gennetten would lead going down the backstretch and would take lap one. Axsom would take the lead on the second lap and take us into lap traffic. The Lubbock, TX native of Brenham Crouch would be once to watch as he would find himself in the top 5.

Lap traffic would arise for the Franklin, IN 27 car as Axsom would have to maneuver on the tricky cushion to keep the lead. Gennetten and Windom would use this as an opportunity to strike on the 27. First, Windom would steal second from Gennetten with 21 laps to go, but Windom would get tight on the exit of two and Genneten would regain second. Crouch was still outside looking in at the flagstand with 20 laps remaining.

Windom would get a great drive off the backstretch and would grab second just before we would draw out the caution for the 7N of Darin Naida. 11 laps would remain at Lincoln Park Speedway and the battle for the podium was on. Axsom would lead us back to green and Windom would look to the bottom. Axsom would power away from the 55 and 3. Parker Price Miller would be the next to challenge Windom for a podium finish. At the line it was .8 seconds between the leader of Axsom, Gennetten, and Windom with 2 laps remaining. Just after the white flag waved, Brady Bacon and JJ Hickle would draw out a red flag for the evening.

A green, white, checkered finish would decide the $6,000 payday. Gennetten would have an outstanding restart and challenge on the low end of the speedway. Gennetten and Axsom would battle down the backstretch and into turn 3. Axsom would hit the rut in turn 4 and Gennetten would take the lead at the white flag. Axsom would power one last time around the speedway and take the lead on the backstretch, Gennetten would battle into turn three, but out of turn four Axsom would win at Lincoln Park Speedway. Gennetten second, and Windom would round out the podium.

The Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars and Maverick Winged Outlaw Sprint Car Series are back TONIGHT at Bloomington Speedway for round two of Maverick Mayhem.
