Macri scores PA Speedweek win at Port Royal

PORT ROYAL, Pa. — It was the 6th scheduled night of PA Sprint Speedweek presented by Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews, and Anthony Macri was able to claim his 3rd Port Royal Speedway Weikert Livestock 410 sprint car win in 2024.

Michael Walter and Chase Dietz made up the front row of the 30 lap A-main event, and Walter would jump out to the early lead once the green flag dropped.

The Selinsgrove driver would lead the opening 12 laps of the race before he would be run down by 3rd starter Brent Marks who would overtake him on the backstretch.

A caution would come out on lap 15 for a slowing Brock Zearfoss on the front stretch. That would reset the field with the top 5 as follows: Marks, Macri, Walter, Dietrich, and Logan Wagner.

On the ensuing restart, Macri would take the unconventional route around the speedway working the bottom side of the corners over the next 4 laps to take the lead away from Marks and would run away for the $10,000 win.

"Like Joe Mooney said it's a little unconventional," said Macri in victory lane talking about using the bottom side of the speedway to take the win. "These guys are working really hard this week and giving me a great car all week long. It's on me just not to mess it up."

Brent Marks and Logan Wagner would round out the podium for the Weikert Livestock 410 A-main event.

In the United Racing Club 360 sprint car A-main, 3rd starter Tyler Ross would go on to win the 25 lap feature event.

After an early lap 1 wreck that collected the likes of Kyle Smith, Seth Schnoke, Frankie Herr, Ken Meisner, Kruz Kepner and Jake Galloway, Cody Fletcher and Doug Hammaker would lead the field to green.

Once the feature went back green, Tyler Ross would jump from inside row number 2 to the lead and wouldn't look back.

Jake Karklin would finish in 2nd and Doug Hammaker would round out the podium.

PA Speedweek will be back in action on Thursday July 4th at Hagerstown Speedway with Danny Dietrich holding a 33 point lead over Anthony Macri in the Speedweek point standings.

Port Royal Speedway will be back in action on Saturday July 6th for the Greg Hodnett Classic as a part of PA Speedweek with Selinsgrove Ford super late models also in action with the night being presented by Ramsey's Car Wash.
