Simpson Sails To First Sprint Car Win At I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, Mo. — Kobe Simpson sailed to victory Saturday night at I-35 Speedway to win his first Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Car feature, and his first ever sprint main event over (Topeka, Kan.) Wyatt Burks, (Independence, Mo.) Dakota Earls, (Gladstone, Mo.) Chad Winfrey, and (Camden, Mo.)Michael Moore completing the top five respectively. While Junior Parkinson, (Wichita Falls, Tex.) Tyler Burton, (Independence, Mo.) and Kyle Gorham, (Blue Springs, Mo.) took positions sixth thru eighth. With Zach Clark, (Raymore, Mo.) second heat winner, as well as Luke Howard, (Overland Park, Kan)  unable to make the starting grid for the feature do to motor problems after the heat races.

Simpson, the (Bonham, Tex) driver, and 2023 MWRA Rookie of the Year, was on point all evening in his new mount recently purchased from second place finisher Burks, winning the first heat to take high point honors for the feature. After rolling a two for the invert, Simpson was positioned to start the feature from the inside of the second row. However, after metal was found in polesetter Clarks oil, Simpson was moved to the outside of the front row for the start of the main event.
From the get go Simpson looked strong, and after dispatching Earls, he would lead throughout on a fast and racy I-35 surface. Defending champion Burks situation was entirely different. After starting on the inside of the second row, “The Sheriff” quickly worked his way to second, before spinning on lap seven sending him to the rear of the field. From the there Burks patiently worked his way up to second place gaining ground on Simpson, but never being able to challenge for the win.

Earls ran a steady race to finish in third place, while picking up his second podium of the 2024 season. While Winfrey’s fourth place result represented his best finish so far this year. Like Burks, Moore’s fifth place run, followed a great performance by driver, but also the crew after the Missouri racer flipped out of the park at the end of the first heat race. And after much thrashing on the rear end, was able to come back and run the entire feature to come home in fifth. While Parkinson was very racy all night long to finish sixth, and Burton returned to action with MWRA to finish seventh, after having to build a new car following an accident at ECS on May 18th.

HOUSTON JOHNSON, CADWALLADER TOP USRA MOD CLASSES AT I-35

By Dylan Vore

WINSTON, Mo -- One of the best nights of racing at I-35 Speedway this season happened this past Saturday night, July 6, 2024. Every class that ran put on an exciting show from start to finish, with multiple exciting battles for position and late race passes in every race that was ran. We also welcomed the USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprints to the track for the first time this season, and also making a return was the Midwest Lightning Sprints.

In feature race action, Casey Burnett was able to take home the victory in the E-mod class after battling lap after lap with Kameron Hanes who finished second. Burnett has now won 3 consecutive features and has 4 total wins this season. Junior Sport Compacts had a 3-car battle for the win between Grant Sheetz, Payton Hanes and Emma Mather. Sheetz was able to come home with the victory, this was win 12 on the season for Sheetz.

Kobe Simpson collected his first ever win in the USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprints at I-35 Speedway, holding off late race charges from tour veterans Wyatt Burks and Dakota Earls. Ken Billings won the Midwest Lightning Sprints after starting near the back of the field.

Tyler Cadwallader started on the pole in the USRA B-Mods and led from start to finish, holding off a charging Adam Dunwoodie who finished second. This was Cadwallader’s 1st feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway. Houston Johnson goes back-to-back in the USRA Modifieds after taking the lead away from Tyler Hibner in the closing stages. Johnson collects his 4th feature win at I-35 Speedway but remains second in the point standings behind Tyler Hibner.

Tyler Starmer earned his first feature win this season at I-35 Speedway in the Pure Stocks in a competitive race from start to finish. Alvin Cooney took home the feature win in a huge field of Sport Compacts; this was winning number 2 in the season for Cooney. Doug Keller was able to hold of a fast-charging Kristchon Hisel to win his first feature this season at I-35.

Thank you to all the drivers who give us a great show each and every weekend. A huge shoutout to all of the race fans that were at the track on Saturday night ready to watch the dirt fly, and even got to enjoy a free firework show during feature action. Thank you to all the track officials and safety crews for creating a fast 3/8th mile track and keeping all drivers safe throughout the night. And one last special thank you to all the people with the USAC Wingless Sprints touring series for putting on an amazing show and being very helpful throughout the night. Weekly racing resumes at I-35 Speedway next Saturday night, we hope to see the grandstands filled once again! Full results for 7/6/24 are posted below:
