Traugott Sweeps Weekend with Heartland Modified Tour win at Amarillo
AMARILLO, Texas — Cole Traugott broke out the broom, and completed a clean sweep of the weekend with the USRA American Racer Modified Series.
35 cars checked into the Route 66 Motor Speedway in the Texas Panhandle, and the residents of Amarillo were treated to a jim dandy of a show.
Polesitter A.J. Sharpensteen lead the 25 car field to the green, and instantly battled with Joe Duvall for the lead. A handful of laps into the race, Traugott made his move to the front, leaving Duvall and Sharpensteen to deal with a hard charging Cale Westover.
Past the halfway point, Westover stalked Traugott as they approached lap traffic, and briefly took the lead once they got there. Unfazed, Traugott navigated more heavy lap traffic to wrestle the lead back away from Westover and set sail from there.
A late race caution with three to go, gave Westover one more shot, but Traugott got the best of the Altus, OK shoe for the second night in arow. Joe Duvall completed the top three once again. Chase Hatton finished off a stellar night in fourth after winning the Limited Mod Feature earlier in the evening. Gene Weaver, from Amarillo, completed the top five.
Sammy McNabb was the Dickson Transport Hard Charger. In the main event he moved from 25th up to 13th. For his efforts he collected an extra $200. A big thanks is in order to Dickson Transport for supporting the AMRS Presented by Day Motor Sports this weekend.
Joe Duvall continues to lead the point standing in the overall chase for the championship. Philip Houston is right behind him, with Chase Hatton sitting in third. Sam Osman resides in the fourth slot and Gary Christian rounds out the top five in points.
