Dirt Late Model legend Scott Bloomquist was killed in a small airplane crash early Friday morning, according to published reports and family friend Reid Millard, who posted the news on the Moberly Motorsports Park facebook page. The accident occurred near Bloomquist's Mooresburg, Tenn. home. He was 60 years-old.
The Hall of Famer won over 600 feature races during his long career including numerous crown jewel races. He was a four-time World 100 and eight-time Dirt Late Dream winner at Eldora Speedway. He won the Late Model Knoxville Nationals two times and was a six-time Show-Me 100 winner, including once at Lucas Oil Speedway. Bloomquist captured three Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series titles and the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model championship.
He last raced in the USA Nationals in Wisconsin earlier this month but his appearences in recent years were limited due to a motorcycle crash and a number of other injuries and illnesses. During his last Eldora Speedway appearance in June, he escaped injury after flipping his late model after tangling with Shannin Babb.
Bloomquist is survived by his daughter, Ariel, his parents and a sister.
