KANSAS CITY,, Kansas — Friday night at Lakeside Speedway, Cody Baker blasted his way to victory in the Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Series Weld Memorial after seizing the lead on lap three, and then expertly navigating the Kansas City, Kansas, dirt track to win 2,500 dollars, and a trophy that towered over him and everyone else in victory lane.

Baker, from (Lone Jack, Mo) would accomplish this feat driving for his grandfather Ted Hall in the THR Racing Number 9h. While Hall, a life long friend of the Weld family, and an integral part of their racing heritage, and success, was just as excited to win the race as his grandson. For the family race team from Missouri, the win was also their third all-time in series history, after previously winning points paying races at Nevada, and Valley Speedway for the Helm Memorial in 2022.
While Baker controlled the point after taking the lead early, racing throughout the pack in the 25 lapper was intense and featured several changes between positions from second thru sixth. At the finish, (Topeka, Ks) point leader Wyatt Burks would come home in second driving the WBR 11w, over (Bonham, Tex) chauffeur Kobe Simpson, racing the KSR 21K in third. With Samuel Wbr Wagner (Lone Jack) behind the wheel of WBR/JHR 73 in fourth, and fellow (Lone Jack) gasman Braydon Cromwell, rounding out the top five in the BCR 4.

Positions five thru tenth featured Tom Curran of (KCMO) with another solid result driving to a sixth place finish in the TCR 11x, Zach Clark (Raymore Mo) in seventh running the ZCR 26, Dakota Earls (Independence, Mo) in eighth turning the wheel in the DER 15e, Chris Parkinson (Gladstone, Mo) earning the Country Kids of Olathe Hard Charger award by coming from eighteenth to ninth driving the CPR 65. And (Spring Hill, Ks) runner Chad Goff completing the top ten at Lakeside with a tenth place finish in the CGR number 9.

In the feature event, after completing the 1st lap, Michael Moore of (Camden, Mo) was involved in a accident on the backstretch. With his car flipping, and catching fire. Moore quickly got out of his machine, and was okay. Unfortunately his car received significant damage. While (Lone Jack, Mo) wheelman Jack Wagner, (after coming from seventeenth to seventh) hit a rut coming into the third turn on lap 11, resulting in him bicycling, hitting the wall, flipping, and coming to a stop between turns three and four. After much consultation with the safety crew, and first responders, Wagner, though sore, was able to stay at the track. Unfortunately his car also received significant damage.

Earlier in the evening, Burks, Simpson, and Baker won the heats. With Simpson earning high point honors after coming from 5th to 1st in the second heat.
Next up, the USAC MWRA Sprint Cars return to action a week from Saturday, August 24th at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri.

SHADREN TURNER WINS AGAIN IN USRA B-MODS AT LAKESIDE SPEEDWAY

By Ricj Staley

KANSAS CITY, Kans. -- Pure Stocks would roar onto the fast, smooth racing surface that is Lakeside Speedway high in number and quality with #46 Tim Pruett and #7 Marshall Jewett both claiming heat race wins to set the standard high. Pruett would lead early with challenges from Jewett and #16 Matthew Matsukevich who was fast and in the mix all feature. In a caution free race, big movers were #6 John Snyder and #67 of Jeff Goepferich Jr who spewed horsepower and smoked the entire feature but never slowed. Jason Ryun driving the Billing’s #25 showed speed charging to the front but developed issues late in the race taking him from win contention. Snyder would stand hard on the go pedal and make the high line work taking the lead as Goepferich Jr would follow. In the closing laps, Goepferich would mount the charge and try the slider in turn four of the final lap as Snyder would make the crossover move work as they came to the checkers side by side. Snyder would have the inside line and Goepferich the outside with Snyder winning the feature by a mere fender length over Goepferich Jr who would yet again finish a solid, close second on the night. Pruett would show speed and consistency the entire feature coming to the checkers third with Jewett fourth and Matsukevich rounding out the Pure Stocks top five finishers of the night.

USRA Stock Cars would put on a show with heat race winners Jaylen Wettengel #91J and Rodney Schweizer #74 showing the way in their feature. Schweizer and Wettengel would race side-by-side as the green flag would wave with #9S Devin Stock and #16S Chris Dishong challenging. Schweizer would start to fade as Stock would settle into second behind Wettengel with Dishong doing battle with Gene Claxton #27C. Wettengel would not be denied and yet again raced his way to the front and Park in Nextran Victory Lane celebrating with family and friends. Dishong would challenge late on a restart but must settle for second on this night as Claxton would claim the third spot at the checkers. Fourth would belong to Devin Stock as he would have a stellar night with #27 David Oxford ending the feature a solid fifth place.

USRA would roll to the track with Shadren Turner #56 and #311 of John Baker both winning their perspective heat races setting the stage for the feature. Turner and Baker would do battle early along with the always fast #1K of Tim Karrick in the early stages with Turner capitalizing and taking the lead. Karrick would settle into second and hold off the challenge of a fast Darrion McLaughlin #38D as the race progressed. Kerry Davis #68 would show speed and consistency racing to the front to challenge running out of laps late. Turner would not be denied and capture the feature win in the Whitt prepared #56 with Karrick coming home second on the night. Davis would have a solid night finishing third with “Mac Attack” McLaughlin a close third at the checkers. Aaron Marrant #57 would have issues in his heat race and start deep in the field of the feature and race his way to round out the night’s top five finishers on the night

Lakeside Speedway would like to thank all Drivers, Fans, Crews and Staff for another great night of racing action. We would like to send a special thanks to Shelby Manthe for bringing us the MWRA with a great car count and racing.
