T Hibner, Eaton, Dishong victorious at I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, Mo. — Creedence Clearwater Revival sang about a Bad Moon Rising, and I can’t speak on the intentions of the lunar cycle, but it was a wild Saturday night under a soon to be full moon (August 19) at I-35 Speedway. Saturday night was the Bud Wilson Memorial, and with heavy hearts, Nic Hanes and Houston Johnson rode side-by-side with American flags during our opening ceremonies.

For on track action, the E-Mods rolled off first, with three fast cars in Tony Layne, Kameron Hanes, and Casey Burnett starting up front. It was Tony Layne returning to victory lane after holding off the 23J and 9H late. Jr Sport Compacts came next, all around it was Grant Sheetz who started at the rear and made his way through the field, late, to win. In Pure Stocks, Mich Ross dominated again for another feature win, with Jakub Hisel and Shaun Wirtz making good runs as well.

Midwest Lighting Sprints made their return to I-35 this week, and Ken Billings started hot in the feature and pulled away from Stanley Kreisel, until Billings suffered car trouble, allowing Kreisel and the lurking JP Falke to pass. Kreisel went on to hold off Falke and a late charging Gage Trube for the win. Late Models again had our fast three feature winners this year, with Tyler Hibner, Mark Dotson, and Paul Glendenning racing. Dotson won the heat, posting some blistering fast laps, even hitting 14.9 seconds! After a great battle early in the feature, Hibner pulled away in a calm race, until Dotson lost it in two and flew off the berm. Hibner went on to win, and its not the last time we’ll hear his name tonight.

Before the green flag on the B-Mod feature, a weird incident as Michael Haschall and Chase Moulton locked bumpers under caution. Once the green dropped, Tim Eaton and Adam Dunwoodie pulled away, until contact pushed Dunwoodie into the wall on the frontstretch and eventually ended his night early, and Tim Eaton making his first visit to victory lane since our inaugural 2024 Saturday night back in March. USRA Stock Cars came next and was a wild night for the series to say the least. In the second heat race, contact Clayton Brown rolled down the front stretch.  Nic Hanes, in the 9H machine, also was damaged. Hanes, our points leader, was able to continue in the feature but contact with the 7D of Danny Holt would end both their nights. Doug Keller led early, eventually being usurped by Chris Dishong. Dishong had a fast car, even with a missing right front fender, and held off Jason Estes in the closing laps to bring home the win.

In the USRA Modifieds, early contact between Lee Hibner and Darren Shaw damaged both cars. Shaw took his car to the pits while Hibner was able to continue, but it was going to be hard for anyone to catch Tyler Hibner. Hibner started on the front row with Houston Johnson, both pulling away from the field, and eventually with Hibner pulling away from Johnson as well. Though for two weeks in a row lap traffic closed the gap late, Hibner once again went on to win his second race of the night. Finally, our last show of the night came on track in the Sport Compacts, with an eventful race ahead of us. Samuel Moore started up front with a great car, pulling away from the field.

It was a wild night, and a great showing of what makes Saturday Night’s so special at dirt tracks across the country. Thank you to our sponsors, track crew, drivers, and of course the fans for spending another Saturday with us, and we’ll see you all next week! Full results posted below.
