WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — Chad Simpson hustled his way to win Saturday’s Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series’ Bill Rice Memorial at Hamilton County Speedway.

Both East and West Series made their way to the historic half-mile in Webster City for the fourth dual race of the 2024 season. The race was the first of 2 races in northern Iowa dual races for the tours to finish out the month of August.

Chad Holladay came out second to last and topped a 27-car field in time trials. The Muscatine, Iowa driver was the best of group B with an 18.035 second lap time. Fellow Iowa Driver C J Horn was the fastest in group A when he stopped the clock at 18.143 seconds.

The night’s four heat races were won by Dylan Thornton, Bill Leighton Jr., Chad Simpson, and Justin Zeitner. After the heats, Jake Neal was the top earner in points giving him first serve on the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starter bonus. Neal took the challenge and started sixth for the main event. The Omaha, Nebraska driver would have a chance to add a $2,100 bonus if he were to win.

After the Predator Custom Trailers B Feature was won by Luke Goedert, 24 cars took to the speedway for the 35-lap main event with Webster City native Jason Hahne starting on the pole.

Hahne would start off taking the race lead and rode the top side of the speedway to pull away from the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Jake Neal, Chad Holladay, Bill Leighton Jr., Tad Pospisil, Charlie McKenna, among others battled throughout the top ten.

Things would go south for McKenna. The Ames, Iowa driver would bring out two cautions on laps 14 and 17. He would finish 24th. Kyle Berck would also bring out a caution on the restart following the second yellow flag. The 7-time series champion would go to the hot pit and would come back to finish 16th.

By this time, Chad Simpson had worked his way from 15th up to second and was ready to hunt down Hahne for the lead. Just one lap after the restart, Simpson would make his move. He overtook Hahne for the lead as they came off turn two, and from there, the race stayed green, and Simpson would run away with the show.

Simpson took home the win and the $4,000 top prize. The win was the second for the Mt. Vernon, Iowa driver and the fifth of his career with the series. Jake Neal put together his best finish of the year with second, while Jason Hahne took third after leading 18 of 35 laps. Tad Pospisil and Chad Holladay rounded out the top five.

The second half of the Northern Iowa doubleheader is next up as both tours head up to the Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City. Then, the West series gets back to action to start September on the 8th with the inaugural Stewart Alley Memorial at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska.
