Super DIRTcar Series to Tackle Tripleheader Weekend Spanning Two Countries

BROCKVILLE, Ont, Canada — As the calendar turns to September, the action ramps up for the Super DIRTcar Series with a tripleheader spanning two countries.

The three-night swing kicks off in Canada for a return to Brockville Ontario Speedway for the Canadian Classicon Thursday, Sept. 5. Drivers will battle in a 75-lap Feature, paying $7,500-to-win on the bullring.

Then, the Series returns to the United States on Friday, Sept. 6, to visit Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY, for the R.D. Hutchinson Memorial. A $7,567 prize is on the line in a 67-lap Feature honoring a man who was instrumental behind the scenes at the track for many years.

A return to Weedsport Speedway finishes the tripleheader weekend on Saturday, Sept. 7, for the Cavalcade Cup 100. The annual September stop will pay $15,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start and is a Super DIRT Week Qualifier, meaning the top finishing driver not yet locked in will secure a guaranteed starting spot in the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 after 100 laps.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of the Super DIRTcar Series action on DIRTVision, either online or with the DIRTVision app.

Here’s a look at What to Watch For at Brockville, Can-Am, and Weedsport:

The Chase for 100: While Matt Sheppard is chasing an 11th Super DIRTcar Series title, a three-race weekend means another milestone is up for grabs.

If the Waterloo, NY driver can sweep all three Features, he will become the second driver in Series history to reach 100 Super DIRTcar Series wins, joining Brett Hearn.

Sheppard has earned Series victories at all three tracks, most recently at Can-Am Speedway in 2022. He has three Super DIRTcar Series triumphs at the “Nasty Track of the North,” eight wins at Weedsport, and one at Brockville in 2019.

He enters the tripleheader with a 34-point lead over Mat Williamson in the race for the 2024 championship.

Time is Money: Heading into Brockville on Thursday, Williamson has 10 races to make up the deficit between him and Sheppard before the end of the season.

While “Money Mat” has been dominant at Weedsport, winning three of the last four Series events, he has yet to score a Series win at either Brockville or Can-Am.

However, that could change this weekend as he’s found success at both facilities

He hasn't finished off the podium at Brockville in his last five starts between the Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar 358 Modified Series, including a win in 2018. At Can-Am, he’s only finished outside the top 10 once in seven starts at the track between the two Series. That includes a runner-up finish with the Super DIRTcar Series in 2019.

Williamson has more Series wins than any other driver in 2024 after earning his sixth triumph at Ransomville last month.

September Qualifiers: Saturday’s Cavalcade Cup 100 at Weedsport is the first of four Super DIRT Week Qualifiers in September. So far, Stewart Friesen, Jimmy Phelps, and Sheppard have locked themselves into the Billy Whittaker Cars 200.

Whoever wins on Saturday will earn the fourth guaranteed starting spot at “Racing’s Biggest Party.” If a driver who’s already earned a spot wins, the guaranteed starting position goes to the next highest finisher who isn’t locked in.

Once the Cavalcade Cup 100 is complete, drivers will have three more chances in September to earn guaranteed starting spots at Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Sept. 21) and Atomic Speedway (Sept. 27-28).

Watch Out for Fuller: Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Famer Tim Fuller returns to Super DIRTcar Series competition this week at three tracks he’s found success at in his career.

Fuller is the defending winner of the Canadian Classic at Brockville, where he has two Super DIRTcar Series wins. He also won at Can-Am in 2007, where he has home-track advantage after earning his fourth consecutive DIRTcar 358 Modified track championship on Labor Day weekend.

At Weedsport, Fuller is a three-time Series winner. However, s last victory at “The Port” came in 2007.

The Edwards, NY driver enters the weekend eighth on the Series all-time wins list after earning his 35th career victory at The Dirt Track at Charlotte last November.

Ant-Man Chronicles: In two races at Weedsport in 2024, only two drivers have finished in the top five in both races. Friesen and Anthony Perrego.

The Montgomery, NY driver finished fourth in the Heroes Remembered 100 in May and third in the Hall of Fame 100 in July.

He also returns to a track where he has one of his four Super DIRTcar Series wins. Perrego earned the victory during the OktoberFAST stop at Can-Am in 2020.

The “Ant-Man” has only made one other Series start at Can-Am, finishing 13th in 2022. He’s yet to make a Series start at Brockville.

Perrego enters the weekend fifth in the Series standings, nine points behind Tim Sears Jr.
