CMS Hog Roast Nationals Victories go to Schultz, Smith, Dennison, Devers, and Isaacs

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) held its final race of the season on Saturday with the Fourth-Annual Hog Roast Nationals. There were 82 race teams on hand, which included 25 of the fastest Super Stocks in the Midwest for their $3,000-to-win special event. In addition, 10 B-Mods, 18 Pure Stocks, 15 Midwest Mods, and 14 Show-Me Vintage Racers took part in the night’s action.

Terry Schultz drove to an exciting victory in the Super Stock featured race while Brad Smith in B-Mods, Dustin Dennison in Midwest Mods, Donnie Devers in Pure Stocks, and David Isaacs in Show-Me Vintage Racers, also collected victories.

Ted Welschmeyer and Terry Schultz led the field to the initial green flag of the 35-lap main event; however, it was a difficult start as several drivers were unable to find an early lap race rhythm. After a pair of false starts and yellow flag incidents, the drivers eventually settled in and put on a fantastic stretch of green flag action. Welschmeyer and Schutlz raced close up front with Clayton Campbell moving into the picture by lap six. Caution flew at lap six, and when racing resumed Campbell moved to second behind Schultz as the pair began distancing themselves from the rest of the pack. At lap 15, the lead drivers began encountering heavy lapped traffic with Schutlz then leading Campbell and fierce three-way battle for third between Welschmeyer, Jared Hays, and Blaine Ewing. Welschmeyer’s strong run came to an end after contact with a slower car at lap 22 just as Ewing moved in to challenge Schultz and Campbell in a classic three-car battle for the lead. The closing laps featured some fantastic racing and a final push to the front by Ewing as the lead cars made their way down the backstretch on the white-flag lap. Ewing moved to the high side to challenge once he cleared Campbell and over the final turns he moved side by side with Schultz. As the pair came for the checkered flag, Ewing’s car climbed the dirt embankment on the back stretch going for the win. Miraculously he kept the car righted, but it was just enough lack of momentum that ultimately led to Schultz collecting the exciting victory. Ewing was second, with Campbell third, Jared Hays fourth, and Marc Carter up from tenth to the fifth spot., the win was the fifth of the year for Schutlz and upped his career CMS victories to 89.

Brad Smith and Jeremy Lile led the 15-lap B-Mod main event to the green with Smith edging forward for the lead over Like. Third-starting Cody Brill moved into second by lap two with Tim Karrick behind Lile in fourth. By lap six, Brill began to move a little closer to Smith with Lile and Karrick swapping third and fourth. These top four cars put distance on the rest of the field as they ran closer to the finish. As laps wound down, Brill’s strong run came up just a bit short in the bid for the win as Smith eventually claimed the win, his second of the year and 46th career CMS win. Brill was a solid second with Karrick third, Lile fourth, and Troy Carlyle, who had been absent for several years, making his return to racing a successful one with a solid fifth-place finish.

David Wood and 2024 Rookie of the Year Alex Schultz began the 15-lap Midwest Mod feature from row one with Wood quickly assuming command of the race. Behind him, Dennison, Schultz, and Logan Roark fought hard for the second spot. The field was slowed just for a lap-seven restart with Wood, Dennison, Roark, and Brian Meyer holding the top spots as Schultz fell from contention, eventually retiring from the event. By lap nine, Dennison found a way around Wood for the lead before one final caution flew on lap twelve, setting up a three-lap run to the finish. Dennison held back the challenges of Wood and Roark over the final laps to take his third victory of the season. Wood finished second with Roark third, Brian Meyer fourth and Terry Smith fifth.

David Doelz and Donnie Devers occupied row one for the 15-lap Pure Stock main event with Doelz leading the early laps. Caution flew at lap three with Doelz battling Chase Galvan at the front until Doelz retired early from the race. Galvan then quickly built up nearly a full straightaway lead over Devers and Chris Messer and looked to be the class of the field. Behind him, it was an action-packed race for second with Devin Baker moving into the picture along with Blaine Nolker and Conrad Kaufman. The race stayed green for the remainder of the distance with Galvan initially taking the victory. However, his car did not pass post-race technical inspection, and he was ultimately disqualified from the finish. Devers fought hard to keep his car in front of the rest of the top five at the original end of the race and his determination paid off as he ultimately was declared the winner. Baker was a strong second with Messer third, Nolker fourth, and Kaufman fifth.

Eddie Neil and Bryant Moyer began the 15-lap Show-Me Vintage Racers main event from row one Moyer leading early in race over Neill, Mickie Cook, and Brandon Jordan. Moyer maintained the lead through two early cautions before teammate Chad Eickleberry moved in to challenge Moyer for the lead, eventually taking the top spot by lap nine. Moyer rand hard to stay in second as seventh-starting David Isaacs found his way to the top three. In what appeared to be a sure victory for Eickleberry, he suffered heartbreak on the back stretch coming for the checkered flag as his car lost power entering turn three. While he struggled to the finish line, behind him it was a flurry of action and moves as the front runners worked hard to avoid contact with the slowing car of Eickleberry coming for the finish line. In what turned out to be a split-decision moment, Isaacs vaulted from third to narrowly capture the victory over Moyer at the line. Cook also passed Eickleberry at the finish for third, dropping Eickleberry to a disappointing fourth at the finish. Jason Isabell advanced from twelfth on the grid to round out the top five.
