Kansas City, Kansas — Tad Pospisil found victoryl lane in thrilling fashion in Friday’s Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series’ return to Lakeside Speedway.

The second to last race of the season saw the West Series make their annual stop to the high-banked 4/10 mile oval in Kansas City, Kansas. Drivers from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri made the trip to the speedway for the tour’s 12th visit to the track.

West Series Point Leader Bill Leighton Jr. was the fastest in time trials on the night when he clocked in at 17.548 seconds. Later, Nebraskans Ben Sukup, Jake Bridge and Tad Pospisil won the three heat races on the night.

Pospisil’s heat race performance helped him become the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place top point driver. The Defending West Series Champion declined the $150 bonus and started on the outside the front row for the main event. Corey Zeitner would redraw the sixth spot thus giving him a shot at the bonus.

Pospisil was quick to take the lead to start off Friday’s 25-lap finale. The race would only see one caution which came out on lap four for a slow car in turn four.
Afterwards, Pospisil and Chad Holladay made a bit of contact on the restart, but both drivers would continue on. Holladay would fade back to fourth where he would find himself in a battle against Andrew Kosiski for the fourth spot.

As the race went into the later stages, Bill Leighton Jr. ran down Pospisil, and the battle for the lead, and ultimately the win, was on. The two swapped the lead back and forth in the final eight laps. Both exchanged the top spot while lapped traffic became mor challenging.

It was while the two were in traffic when Leighton had the lead as they reached the white flag. Leighton went to the low side and was caught up behind a slower car. This allowed Pospisil to make the winning move as he ran right around the top of turns one and two. He would hang on through the final two corners to take home the big win.

It was Pospisil’s sixth win of the season, his highest win total in a single season, and it was his third at Lakeside tying him with Jesse Sobbing for most series win all-time at the track.

Leighton would have to settle for second while Kyle Berck held off a late charge from Chad Holladay to finish third. Holladay was fourth, and Corey Zeitner rounded out the top five.

Now, Kansas City is in the books, and only one race remains. Both East and West Series will go head-to-head one last time to decide both tour championships. On October 4-5, the season finale will go down at Malvern Bank’s home track, the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa for the 2nd running of the Pumpkin Dash.
