Sweet wins $25,000 Diamond Classic at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, Mo. — They say you'd rather be lucky than good, but Brad Sweet was a little bit of both on Wednesday night at Lucas Oil Speedway.

After leading the opening nine laps of the 35-lap Diamond Classic A-Main from the outside pole, Sweet actually slipped back to second when Flyin' Ryan Timms came surging past on Lap 10 and stole the lead away from him.

It looked like the Oklahoma City, OK 18-year-old was poised to collect his first-career Kubota High Limit Racing victory, but then drama struck on Lap 13 when he took the Shane Liebig #10 to the Rod End Supply Work Area with a fuel leak. He ultimately came back to salvage a top-10 from the tail, but the heartbreaker took away a potential $25,000 check.

With Sweet back in command, the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 controlled the final 22 laps and collected his second-straight win with the series. "The Big Cat" is up to nine trips to Whiskey Myers Victory Lane, the most in 2024, and sends him to Texas Motor Speedway with the championship clinched.

Tyler Courtney followed Sweet to the finish line, coming up only one spot short of a Diamond Classic sweep. "Sunshine" takes home a $10,000 runner-up aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #7BC.

Spencer Bayston completed the podium with his fifth-straight top-five aboard the CJB Motorsports, TrueTimber #5.

Closing out the top-10 at Lucas Oil was Corey Day, Kasey Kahne, Rico Abreu, Skylar Gee, James McFadden, Ryan Timms, and Justin Peck.
