Gunner Martin emerges victorious in Heartland Modified Tour thriller at Valley Speedway

GRAIN VALLEY, MO. — With just two races remaining on the Inaugural Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels schedule, Friday night the fans at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri were treated to a showcase.

Slicing in and out of lapped traffic, Tyler Hibner appeared to be on his way to his second series win of the season. However, the Hochatown Saloon Last Call, went to Gunner Martin with a last lap pass exiting turn two. Martin went to the top and made it stick for his first win with the series, in front of his hometown crowd.

“This is one of the coolest wins ever,” said Gunner Martin. “I've been wanting to get Rick Beebe a win for two years now and we finally got it done. I knew lapped traffic was going to play into it. I waited, and then we got to one to go. He (Hibner) went to the bottom and I just stuck it up there. I started racing out here in 2009. I got a lot of laps here. This is very special!”

Behind Martin, Hibner showed an extremely strong performance in the runner up position. Racing with the tour all the way from Winona, Minnesota, Keith Foss, rounded out the podium moving forward six spots to third.

32 cars rolled into Valley Speedway for the track's first Modified show in 8 seasons. Saturday the tour rolls into I-35 Speedway in Winston, Missouri, capping the year. Back in June, Hibner won the series first event there. From that time, he has taken 10 checkered flags at I-35 Speedway and points lead. Tyler Wolff will also be crowned the series champion for 2024.
