Mullens wins Heartland Modified Tour Season Finale at I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, Mo. — Saturday night was the culmination of an entire season's worth of racing for both the drivers and staff of the USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels. I-35 Speedway in Winston, Missouri graciously hosted the series for the second time this year.

27 cars signed in for action with $2,000 on the line. Tanner Mullens redrew the number thee chip, following the heat races. He rolled the high side while Tyler Hibner lead early. Slowly Mullens reeled him in and the duo were in close quarters for a handful of laps. Mullens eventually grabbed the lead and rolled away to the win.

His track performance also was big for the final points standings as well. He moved up from seventh to fourth with the win. It was his second VP Racing Fuels Checkered Flag of the season. His first came earlier in the year at Caney Valley Speedway.

“It feels good,” said Mullens, in Victory Lane with announcer Tanner Schmidt. “I think he (Hibner) was relying on that grip on the bottom, and I was too tight to stay down there. I got to the top and tried to run with momentum the best I could. I was still a little free getting in, and got a little bit to more to work on for sure.”

Hibner was the runner up for the second night in a row, showcasing great speed and poise all weekend. Brandon Givens rounded out the top three and also locked down third in the overall points. Houston Johnson was fourth and a newcomer to the Modified division, Shadren Turner, finished fifth.

Saturday's race marked the conclusion of the season. The “Post Season Party” will take place Saturday, November 23 at the, state of the art Hochatown Saloon, in Hochatown, Oklahoma. The $32,000 point fund will be distributed, along with a great meal and concert from red dirt country music artist Stoney LaRue. More information will be forthcoming on the event.

ISAACS TOPS B-MODS AT I-35 SPEEDWAY

By Dylan Vore

WINSTON, Mo. -- Another great night of racing at I-35 Speedway this past Saturday. We welcomed the Heartland Modified Touring Series (HMT) to the track, as well as the 2nd to last weekend of racing for our weekly series. It was also Domestic Violence Awareness night at the races, where multiple fans took home raffle prizes and over $300 was raised for Domestic Violence Awareness.

For the on-track action, Tanner Mullens claimed the Heartland Modified Tour feature win after passing I-35 Speedway points leader Tyler Hibner in the closing stages of the races. Hibner would finish 2nd.   The HMT series features some of the best of the best in Modified racing.

Nathan Hampton held off a fast-charging Tony Layne in the E-Mod feature for his first win of the 2024 season for Hampton. Grant Sheetz used his front row starting spot to collect his 23rd feature win in the Jr. Sport Compacts.

It was a Hisel family reunion in victory lane tonight, as Jakub Hisel drove away in the Pure Stock feature race, Jakub’s 9th feature win this season. Then shortly after his brother Kristchon parked his Stock Car in victory lane. This was Kristchon’s 3rd feature win in Stock Cars this season. In the B-Mod feature it was a battle of the brothers, as Lucas Isaacs had to hold off his brother Ethan to secure the feature win, this was Lucas Isaacs’ 2nd feature win at I-35 this season. And Brad Mick brought out his brand-new Sport Compact and drove it to the front for Mick’s 11th feature win.

Next Saturday night is our final night of racing for the season, and it is also our championship night. As of October 19, Tyler Hibner has a 192-point lead on Houston Johnson in the A-Mods. Chase Moulton leads the B-Mod points by 73 points over 2nd place Mark Anderson. Nic Hanes is the point leader in Stock Cars, leading by 118 points over 2nd place Corey Myers. James Silkwood leads the way in the Pure Stock points with a 200-point lead on Jakub Hisel. Brett Holman holds a narrow 1-point lead in E-Mods over Kameron Hanes. Brad Mick leads the Sport Compact points by 86 over 2nd place Scott Beagle. And Grant Sheetz holds a 21-point lead in the Jr. Sport Compacts over Emma Mather.

Thank you to all the race fans that came out this past Saturday for another exciting night of racing. We had 108 cars total and completed our last feature race at 10:15. Thank you to all the people with the Heartland Modifieds and RacinDirt for putting on an exciting race and being a great group to work with all night. Thank you to the drivers for bringing their best once again. And finally, to all the track officials and safety crew members for maintaining a fast track and keeping everyone safe throughout the night. Full results for 10/19 posted below:
