SWEETWATER, Tenn. — Brandon Overton of Evans, GA left I-75 Raceway $70,000 richer on Saturday night after clinching the 2024 Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series $50,000 National Championship during My Race Pass Qualifying, and then put $20,000 worth of icing on the title cake with a win in the 50-lap season finale.
The victory was the third of the season for “Big Sexy” and he bookended the 2024 Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series 2024 season with a win in the season opener on March 16 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Overton’s second win of the season came back on May 31 at Swainsboro Speedway in Swainsboro, GA.
“I didn’t want the race to end because it had been so long, I couldn’t remember what it felt like to win a race,” Overton said in the Arizona Sports Shirts Victory Lane. “This track was just so racy all weekend and you local fans are very fortunate to have such a great race track. I can’t wait to come back here.”
Just before the start of the 50-lap Feature Race, Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series Officials announced that the 2025 Points Season will begin at I-75 Raceway on March 7 and 8, 2025. Details for the weekend will be announced soon by the series. The Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series raced in front of a packed house on Saturday night at the East Tennessee track.
Overton clinched the $50,000 2024 National Championship by completing one lap of qualifying. With that little chore out of the way, Overton finished second in the first Heat Race to earn the fifth starting spot in the feature race. Overton quickly worked his way to the front and passed Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA for the lead he would never relinquish.
The Minon Construction Caution Flags fell right for Overton, keeping him in clean air right to the checkered flag, and he took a .920 second margin of victory over the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee McDowell at the checkered flag. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN finished third and Friday night’s winner Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN took the fourth spot.
Kaede Loudy of Rogersville, TN ran as high as second, but scored his second straight top five finish with a fifth-place effort. Ashton Winger of Hampton, GA was sixth to preserve his $25,000 prize for the Runner-Up spot in the 2024 Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series final point standings. Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, NM finished seventh and eighth went to Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA.
Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, AL came back from a cut tire to claim a ninth-place finish and the third spot in the final 2024 Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series point standings. Christian Hanger of Winchester, TN rounded out the top ten. Trey Mills of St. Augustine, FL started 22nd and finished 11th to earn the MD3 Hard Charger of the Race Award.
In preliminary action, McDowell was the My Race Pass Fast Qualifier with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval in 14.070 seconds. The four eight-lap Heat Races were won by McDowell in the Quicksilver Engines First Heat, Seawright in the Earnhardt Technologies Group Second Heat, Loudy in the MD3 Third Heat, and McIntosh in the Minon Construction Fourth Heat.
The two ten-lap Last Chance Qualifier Races were won by Jackson Hise of Ocala, FL in the Augusta Aquatics LCQ 1, and Spencer Hughes of Meridian, MS in the Hoosier Racing Tire LCQ 2. Hise is the 2024 $5,000 ATC Bolts Rookie of the Year in the Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series.
The Hunt The Front Super Dirt Series would like to thank all of the competitors, fans, tracks and sponsors that made the 2024 season a big success. Series officials are working on the 2025 season schedule, and will be making more announcement in the coming weeks.
