Gateway Dirt Nationals this weekend in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals preliminary night rosters for the Velocita Super Late Models have been released, with 150 cars entered for the eighth running of "Dirt in December."
Multi-time World 100 winner and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Jonathan Davenport returns to St. Louis looking for his first win inside the dome, while Brandon Overton will make his Gateway debut Thursday night.
Friday night’s preliminary will see two-time Gateway champion Bobby Pierce in action, fresh off a pair of huge wins at Eldora Speedway in the World 100 and Dirt Track World Championships. Recently-crowned Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. returns after winning last year’s Friday night preliminary, while 2023 series champion Hudson O’Neal also has a preliminary night win under his belt.
Four other past preliminary night winners will also race on Friday night – Gordy Gundaker (2017), Myles Moos (2021), Cody Bauer (2022) and Nick Hoffman (2023).
The field has been split evenly into two between the 150 entries for the 2024 edition of the Gateway Dirt Nationals. Full rosters can be viewed at the bottom of the story.
Only the top three finishers from each preliminary night will be locked in to Saturday night’s 40-lap, $30,000 to win A-Feature. Only 20 of the 150 drivers on hand will get a starting spot in the main event.
The Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals return on Thursday-Saturday, December 5-7 at The Dome At America’s Center in downtown St. Louis, MO. The Velocita Super Late Models and Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds will battle it out over three days with a $30,000 top prize for Super Late Models and a $10,000-to-win main event for Modifieds.
Once again in 2024, fans unable to witness the one-of-a-kind event in person will be able to watch all three nights of racing live on FloRacing. If you're not already a FloRacing subscriber, click here to sign up today.
