Brenden Queen survives one-lap shootout to win ARCA Tide 150 at Kansas Speedway

Kansas City, Kansas—Brenden “Butterbean” Queen proved Friday night that he’s more than a side dish. The mullet-wearing regional short-track ace from Chesapeake, Va., is the main entre of the ARCA Menards Series in 2025. He captured his second win of the season in the Tide 150 and also took home his first career win at Kansas Speedway.

Queen’s No. 28 Chevrolet held off the hard-charging Toyota of William Sawalich on the final restart to take the checkered flag. He began the season with a win at Daytona International Speedway and dominated at Phoenix Raceway before Brent Crews bested him on the final turn.

“I really don’t know what I need to win at all these types of tracks,” said Queen, the 2024 CARS Late Model Tour champion. “I come from the backyard cornfields racing. I’m not used to being on the big stage. Tonight is such a big night for me moving forward, because now I know what I need to win when the sun goes down. It’s kind of like my late-model days. Once I figured it out, I was able to win some races.”

Iowa’s Mason Mitchell finished third, followed by pole-winner Lawless Alan and Lavar Scott, who entered the night with the ARCA Menards Series lead.

Friday’s race provided race fans with a foretaste of what’s to come at Kansas Speedway this weekend. On Saturday, the stars of the NASCAR Cup Series will practice and qualify for Sunday’s AdventHealth 400, while the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series caps off the day with the Heart of Health Care 200 at 6:30 p.m.
