Rico Abreu Wins Eventful High Limit Feature at Lakeside Speedway

Kansas City, Kansas—You'd have thought a full moon was out on Friday when the Hasty Bake Grills Kansas City Clash captivated the attention of a near standing-room-only crowd at Lakeside Speedway.
The 30-lap main event saw three different leaders with the climax of the race coming on Lap 10 when four of the top-six contenders were eliminated in a single, jaw-dropping circuit.
First, early leader Austin McCarl dropped out with mechanical issues and then chaos followed suit right behind him. With Kerry Madsen then controlling the top spot, Rico Abreu entered the picture and went side-by-side down the backstretch. The duo collided at entry to turn three with Abreu's #24 going hopping, Madsen's #55 going spinning.
The drama escalated when Brad Sweet had nowhere to avoid and slammed into Madsen, sending both cars flipping. As they careened out of control, Kyle Larson was unable to escape and took a big hit from Madsen's car coming down.
Somehow, Abreu's #24 escaped with minimal-to-no damage and he was able to continue with the lead while Madsen, Sweet & Larson were all eliminated.
Restarting with 20 to go, Abreu controlled the lead from there and cruised to his second-straight win with Kubota High Limit Racing - making it four-straight weekends with a win for the #24 camp. Over the last week, they've netted $37,500 in two High Limit races to push his total to 14 career wins with the series.
Tyler Courtney closed quickly in the final laps aboard his NOS Energy Drink #7BC, but ultimately fell short by 0.519-seconds at the checkered flag. It was a big points night for the Clauson-Marshall Racing team with Brad Sweet suffering a DNF, cutting the gap down to 42-points.
Justin Peck and Rudeen Racing rounded out the podium for their second top-three of the season with Kubota High Limit Racing.
Closing out the top-10 at Lakeside was Spencer Bayston, Scott Bogucki, Emerson Axsom, Corey Day, Aaron Reutzel, Brent Marks, and Tanner Holmes.
