CALIFORNIA, Mo.—Week #2 of the 2025 racing season at Double X Speedway in California, MO is in the books. Weekly classes of 360 Winged Sprint Cars, Full bodied Super Stocks and the guest class of B Modifieds put on a great evening of racing for the fans in the stands.  Cooler temperatures made for an enjoyable evening for all.

The first Super Stock heat race saw Darek Wiss of Centralia, MO take the victory in the 10R normally piloted by Chris Romig. Dale Berry was second with Jody Romig finishing third by a bumper over Steve Beach in fourth, Eddie Keeran was fifth. Heat two saw Darin Porter lead early before Harlan Dowell edged ahead and would claim the victory. Porter finished a car length back in second, Ryan Shikles debuted in third, Dusty See was fourth and John Shane completed the running order.

The guest class of B Modifieds were next on the track for qualifying heat races. Heat one saw Joshua Ready of Fulton taking the victory over Tyler Crocker in second, Terry Schultz was a close third, Tyler Imhoff was fourth and Don Williams was fifth. The second heat saw Adam Hall and Chad Staus race door to door swapping the top spot for six laps before Hall edged ahead to secure the victory. Colson Kirk, last week’s feature winner slipped past Staus at the line for second, Staus was third, Bronson Wicken finished fourth and Richard Brainard was fifth.

The fan favorite, 360 Winged Sprint Cars completed the qualifying portion of the evenings card. Heat one was fired off by Taylor Walton in the 93 taking the lead in turn one and not looking back. Walton was followed by Tyler Blank in second, Casey Shuman was third, Randy Martin fourth, Tom Curran fifth and Evan Semerad completed the six car field. The second heat was all Ben Brown for six and ¾ laps, as they were coming to the white flag Samuel Wagner found a groove on the low side and took over the point to claim the win. Brown would finish second, Blake Bowers was very racy in third, Jack Wagner would finish fourth, Emylee Yoder finished fifth and Brad Yoder claimed sixth.

Feature event time saw the Super Stocks lead off the second half of the evening. Darek Wiss and Harlan Dowell led the field to the green flag. After the first start was called back it was Darek Wiss taking the early lead with Dowell and Darin Porter in pursuit. Wiss settled into a rhythm as Porter cleared Dowell for second. Nose to tail the top two would run both on the low groove. As the laps wound down, Wiss was fighting a right rear tire losing air pressure, on the white flag lap the 10R would slip up off of the low groove allowing Porter to capitalize and pick up win #2 at Double X for 2025. Darek Wiss would recover to finish second, Harlan Dowell was third, Jody Romig fourth and Dale Berry completed the top five. The second five would see Steve Beach in sixth, Eddie Keeran in seventh, Ryan Shikles in eighth, John Shane ninth and Duty See in tenth.

The B Modifieds continue to put on racy events at Double X. Joshua Ready of Fulton took the early lead with Colson Kirk, and Adam Hall joining him at the front of the field. The leader began feeling the pressure of Kirk on lap five before the third caution of the race bunched the field on his rear bumper on lap seven. Ready would continue to lead as Kirk would slip to the high line allowing Adam Hall and Terry Schultz to move into second and third. Hall would move to the point on lap thirteen after a door to door battle the previous lap. Hall would open up a five car length lead as Terry Schultz moved into second as lapped traffic was navigated. At the checkered flag it was Adam Hall taking the hard fought win. Terry Schultz took a steady drive into second, Joshua Ready was third, Colson Kirk fourth and Tyler Crocker rounded out the top five. Finishing in sixth was Bronson Wicken, seventh was Richard Brainard, eighth Tyler Imhoff, Don Williams finished ninth and Chad Staus was credited tenth after he left the race early with mechanical issues.

The 360 Winged Sprint Cars brought their high speed thrills to the clay to cap off the evening of racing. Taylor Walton moved to the lead with Tyler Blank in tow but the real mover was Jack Wagner coming from eighth to the lead in six laps. Gentleman Jack was hauling the mail in the #77 quickly opening a ten car length lead over second place Blank who was racing hard with Taylor Walton and Ben Brown. Wagner would keep the yellow JHR machine at the point until a lap 17 caution brought the field to his rear bumper. On the restart he picked up where he left off and steadily increased his advantage. Walton would move into second leaving Blank to battle with Ben Brown for third and fourth. As the laps clicked by the running order remained the same. Wagner would claim the victory, with Taylor Walton earning second, Tyler Blank finished third, Ben Brown was fourth and Casey Shuman finished a solid fifth. Samuel Wagner would cross in sixth, Blake Bowers in seventh, Tom Curran was eighth, Randy Martin ninth, Evan Semerad finished tenth, and Emylee Yoder was eleventh.

Next week is the “Tribute to Jesse” edition of Sunday Night Thunder, tribute to Jesse Hockett. Featuring increased purses with the 360 Winged Sprint Cars racing for an advertised $1775 to win, super Stocks are competing for $775 winner’s share and the guest class Outlaw Non Wing 600cc Micro Sprints racing for $1075.
