Colonel Joshua Pope to serve as Grand Marshal of Show-Me 100, Lee Newton concert Saturday
WHEATLAND, Mo.—Lucas Oil Speedway officials are excited to announce Colonel Joshua Pope, the Commander at the 509th Maintenance Group, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri as Grand Marshal of this weekend’s 33rd Annual Show-Me 100-Presented by Missouri Division of Tourism.
With this annual event falling on Memorial Day weekend every year, the speedway honors the active military, veterans and families of fallen military personnel. The speedway is also a close neighbor to the Whiteman Air Force Base just 65 miles to the north of Wheatland. Whiteman Air Force Base is home of the B-2 Spirit Bomber Fleet.
As Commander, Colonel Joshua Pope is directly responsible for the morale, welfare and well-being of more than 1,450 airmen and their families assigned to three squadrons. Additionally, he directs all production, flightline and back shop maintenance supporting 20 B-2A aircraft supporting four operational squadrons. Not only will fans get to experience the Diamond of Dirt Tracks and all the amenities the facility has to offer over the course of the three days, but the 33rd annual event will include live entertainment on stage at the vendor midway on Saturday from 5-6 p.m. Nashville Recording Artist Lee Newton and her band will entertain fans while they shop the vendor midway full of t-shirt vendors, food vendors, bounce houses and displays all leading up to the Nutrien Ag Solutions pre-race ceremonies that follow hot laps at 7 p.m.
Lee Newton grew up in Western North Carolina and calls Shelby, N.C. her hometown. She is a multi-award-winning artist including the Josie Music Awards Vocalist of the Year in 2020 and has just released her new album called “Homesick”. She has opened for country greats like Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Sara Evans and so many more.
Lee will sing some of your favorite cover songs while blending her own music into the show. Lee will also sing the National Anthem during the pre-race ceremonies that will include dignitaries from the state of Missouri and military guests as we honor the veterans and military with a huge American Flag held in the infield. Action resumes on Friday night: The 33rd annual Show-Me 100 Presented by Missouri Division of Tourism continues on Friday night with a full Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series program. The night will be capped by the Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson, with $10,000 going to the winner.
Drivers will continue to accumulate points toward starting position for Saturday night's big finale, the 100-lap feature paying a record $75,000 to the winner. Hudson O'Neal captured the feature win on Thursday's opening night, taking the Cowboy Classic.
Grandstands open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. A driver autograph session will be held from 6:15-7 p.m. Saturday on the midway.
