Drueke, Harker score feature wins at Eagle Raceway
EAGLE, Nebr.—Dukes of Hazzard Night, presented by A1 Iron, Avid Realty and Speedway Motors saw a beautiful evening Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Clear blue skies and a nice breeze greeted the huge crowd that showed up. 135 teams filled the pits and were chomping at the bit to get out onto the high banks of 1 Badass Racetrack.
There were no serious incidents in the preliminary racing action.
The first A Feature was for the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars. Fletcher Petersen used his pole position to take the lead on lap 1 in the 33 with Jeff Watts’ 6, the 55X of Tim Drake and Jakob Boucher’s 5J rounding out the top 4. Boucher go loose in turn 4 and took a shortcut through the infield on lap 7, falling back to fifth with Mike Lineberry’s 72 moving up to fourth. Drake passed Watts on lap 7 to move up to second. 10 laps remained when Chad Andersen put the 8C into fourth place and moved up to third the following circuit. Drake and Andersen both passed Petersen the next time around. Mason Richards joined the top runners with 6 to go, getting past Watts for fourth and advanced to the third spot with 5 to go. With 3 laps let Benji Legg took over fourth in the #84. Despite doing all that he could, Andersen could not get past Drake. That made your final top 4 Drake, Andersen, Richards and Legg. Since the race went caution free, all drivers in the race will receive free pit passes next week.
This was Tim’s first victory of the 2025 season. He said “It’s tough to get around here but we had a pretty good night. We started towards the front, the car was really good and I was able to hold off some really good drivers for the win. Andersen showed me a fender one time and I knew I had to get moving. I think I was in second at the time and he was in third. I was get around the leader shortly after that. I knew I had to stay consistent and not make any mistakes because Chad has a lot of laps here. Not only him but all of the other competitors too. There’s always a lot of good cars here”. Tim’s sponsors include N & W Transfer, Hobscheit Motors, Steam Fitters Local 464, Kevin Hamlet at Tool Shed, Judah Caster, Tworks Body Shop and C & B Stock Cars.
Next was the finale for the Nebraska Septic IMCA Sprint Cars. Gene Ackland in the 14G, Cole Wayman’s 18W, the 77 of Bret Klabunde and Tyler Hendrickson’s 14T were the top 4 after 1 lap. Lap 2 saw Adam Gullion put the #91 into third with Ty Ledger’s 35L following him into fourth the next lap. Hendrickson spun in turn 4 on lap 6 and the right rear tire of Billy Alley’s 11 made contact with the front end of Hendrickson’s mount sending Alley up on 2 wheels, nearly tipping over but Alley recovered and kept going. That brought out the Eastepwheels.com Choose Cone, allowing the drivers to pick if they wanted to restart on either the inside or outside row. The restart saw Wayman grab the lead. Gullion and Ledger also got past Ackland the next time around to advance to second and third but Ackland moved back to third as Gullion slipped the next lap and Ledger took over second with Tyler Drueke’s #12 moving up to fourth. Drueke got around Ackland on lap 11 to move to third and advanced to second 3 laps later. Drueke took over the lead from Wayman with 10 to go as Gullion jumped all the way back up to third. 8 laps were left when Alley passed Ledger for fourth, then took over the third spot 2 laps later. Drueke was long gone by that time, but the battle behind him was still raging! Alley managed to get past Wayman at the line on the final lap but Drueke won by ½ lap over Alley, Wayman and Gullion.
This marked Tyler’s third consecutive win in a row at Eagle. I joked with Tyler that I had taken a poll of all the sprint car drivers in the pits and they said that he should go race elsewhere, to which he laughingly said “Well, we’re going to. We’ll go to Husets next week and after that we plan on going to Knoxville. On the fifth I may come here, or I may stay home but tentatively we plan on going to the lake. I think I may have found my sweet spot where I can race here at home but still travel and do my 410 thing because I don’t want to give up on that. My wife and kids are able to come watch me race here and that makes it a lot of fun. The main thing is that they can come to the races. The little man loves the races. Every time we pass Eagle Raceway he asks ‘Dad, are we racing tonight?’ and I have to tell him ‘Not tonight. Sorry buddy’.” I then inquired about the night’s victory and he stated “We just keep working on it, keep trying things. We had 3 different setups for 3 different races. It was okay tonight. We weren’t very good in the heat race, we were hemhawing around, trying to figure out what to do. I told Austin ‘You don’t have to drive this so I don’t know what you’re worried about. Just send it. Go for it! He got pretty aggressive and did a great job. It was enough to get the win”. Tyler’s sponsors include Forbes Motorsports, Cherney Enterprises, LLC, American Trailer Co. , Drueke Trucking & Ranch, Zoz Farms, Jeffres Trucking LLC, Angels Energy Service, Johnson Farms, Kings Auto Supply, Jimbell, Double Z Express, Gordon Electric Inc., Midwest Racing Performance, J&J Auto Racing, Speedway Motors Racing Engines and Victory Fuel.
Dan Latture was first back to the flag stand on lap 1 of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod A Main in the 14M with Brady Papineau second in the 53, Lee Horky’s 7 third with fourth going to the 15 of Tyler Deeke. Horky passed Papineau and Latture for the lead lap 2 with Mason Richards’ 18M jumping up to third on lap 3 with Papineau falling to fourth. Richards passed Latture the next circuit as Theron Ahlman vaulted up to third in the 2A. Derek Hall cracked the top 4 on lap 8, putting the 44D into fourth place. Richards got past Horky for the lead on lap 8, but Arie Schouten’s 24RE and the 96 of Gary Saathoff came to a halt on the front stretch, bringing out the Choose Cone. Richards grabbed the lead on the restart. Lap 10 saw Hall spin out in turns 3 and 4 after contact between his left front and Ahlman’s right rear. That moved Adam Vrbka’s 7V up to fourth place when the Choose Cone was placed on the front stretch. Vrbka took advantage of the restart to jump all of the way up to second place, moving Horky back to third and Ahlam to fourth. Cole Wayman passed Ahlman for fourth with 10 to go in the V18W. Michael Sherwood’s 0 stopped at the top of turns 3 & 4 with 5 circuits left for another caution. Vrbka moved to the lead 1 lap after the restart with Horky following him into second the next lap. Vrbka held on for the W with Horky second, Richards third and Wayman fourth.
This was win #1 for Adam here at Eagle in 2025, coming from 12th on the starting grid. He related “Those cautions helped me out quite a bit. I like the Choose Cone. It gives me a chance to start double file and I usually do good on those restarts. I just slowly worked my way through there”. Adam’s sponsors include Conservative Car Sales, Unlimited Sports Solutions, Eagle Automotive, Long Shot Repair, Wojo Painting, Fritzen Farms, Clive Bannister, Stephenson Truck Repair, Skip’s Equipment, Mook Trucking and JP Equipment.
Bob Zoubek spun his 5S in turn 1 on the initial start of the Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape IMCA Modified A Feature, collecting the 96J of John Saathoff with Brandon Verbeek’s 4B and the 60 of Adam Armstrong making contact with Saathoff but kept going. The first official lap saw Tyler Harr’s 21T, the 41A of Adam Wasserman, Jaxon Saathoff in the 96 and Ricky Stephan’s 25 the top 4. Clint Homan’s 27 got loose in turn 1, causing Shawn Harker to spin his #40 and collect Mike Densberger’s 81, Nate Thompson in the 3T and the 8C of Chad Andersen. Andersen went to the pits on the hook and Densberger drove there for repairs and rejoined the field. Again, the Choose Cone came out to reset the field. Stephan moved up to second on the restart with Jaxon Saathoff third and Wasserman fourth. Wasserman passed Saathoff for third the next lap. Clint Homan passed Saathoff the next lap to put the 27 into fourth place. Saathoff regained fourth place the next time around. Wasserman slipped in turn 4 the next time around, allowing Jaxon Saathoff to move to third with Adam Armstrong putting the #60 into fourth. Armstrong passed Jaxon Saathoff for third the next circuit, advanced to second on lap 15 and snagged the lead away from Harr the next lap. The yellow caution lights came on in the corners with 9 to go for debris on the racing surface. The Choose Cone set up the top 4 of Armstrong, Stephan, Harr and Jaxon Saathoff. Harr spun in turns 3 & 4 on the restart, making your top 4 Armstrong, Stephan, Jaxon Saathoff and Harker. Harker moved up to third on the restart. With 7 circuits left Armstrong went very high in turn 1, climbed the wall but came back down and fell into fourth place. That moved Stephan into first, Harker into second and Jaxon Saathoff into third. Amstrong again passed Jaxon Saathoff for third with 5 to go. Brandon Verbeek looped the 4B in turn 4 the next time around for yet another caution. Harker took over the top spot with 3 to go as Homan advanced to fourth, moving up to third the next lap. The top 4 remained unchanged to the checkers with the victory going to Harker, Stephan second, Armstrong third and Homan fourth.
Shawn had started in twelfth and slowly and steadily worked his way to the front. As he approached me for his interview he said “It’s been awhile. I got into that little accident in 1 And 2 and had to go to the back and worked my way back from 17th or 18th. The cautions fell my way and it worked out pretty good! Ricky was good on the bottom and I knew he probably wouldn’t make a mistake. I looked at the board and it said 5 to go so I knew I had to get up on the wheel and start on making the high side work or I was never going to get around him”. Shawn’s sponsors include Roads Chassis, Speedway Shocks, Jet Racing, Patriot Crane and Rigging, Shark Bait Candy, “R” Cart Services, Noonan Industries, King Equipment, Patriot Heavy Haul, Tex Cattle. Speedway Racing Engines and Final Grade.
Lastly was this week’s Draw Redraw Feature for the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks. The first start was called back when Tyler Ramsey’s 72T spun in turns 1 & 2, causing the 17 of James Doeil, Kyle Gannon’s 66G and the 25 of Brandon Fisher to spin to a halt. On the complete restart Cod Muth spun in turn 4 after Dan Markham contacted his left side. The first official lap in the books saw Trenton Dowty out front in the 53T with Markham’s #6, Brad Schreiner in the 10 and Ben Becher in the B4 rounding out the top 4. Lap 3 saw Doeil spin to a halt just inside the turn 4 infield and the yellow flag was displayed. The Choose Cone was again brought out and the running order for the top 4 remained the same. Schreiner jumped up into the lead on the restart. Dillon Richards passed Becher on lap 4 to put the 24R into fourth and got past Markham for third the next time around. Colin Hein passed Markham with 10 to go to take the fourth spot. Richards passed Dowty for second the following circuit and took over the lead from Schreiner 3 laps later. Hein went into and back out of the infield with 5 to go, moving Markham back up to fourth. Dowty managed to get past Schreiner as they came to the finish line on the last lap. Richards won, Dowty was second, Schreiner was third and Markham finished fourth.
This marked 6 wins in a row for Richards as he had taken the lead in National points for the IMCA Hobby Stocks. I said to him “6 in a row, perfect on the season” and he stated “Pretty good!! The track was really good, and that’s what made me able to win. You can pass here but if you go to Beatrice you can’t pass anybody. We’re finally leading the National points; FINALLY!! We kept having those restarts And the outside row kept moving forward and I kept having to start 9th. It was a little tough, but the track was good so you could pass people for the win. I just kept working my way through the field and tried to not get a flat tire” Dillon’s sponsors include Koozer Painting, Fester’s Bait and Tackle, Swift Racing Springs, S & L Trenching, Noonan Industries LLC, Multi Fire Plug Wires, Aero Wheels, Integra Shocks, Backspin Entertainment, Van’s Waterproofing, Toy Scout, Nelson Tree Service, Cat’s Fireworks, Seven2Carts, Epp Farms, Wiring Solutions, Precision Auto Tune Inc., Neapco, In Memory of Jr Craig, In Memory of Tom Miller, Troy Cepak, Jet Racing, Extreme Motorsports, Schafer’s Oil, Schoenfeld Headers, Inline Healing, 4G’s Powder Coating and Freese Farms.
