CALIFORNIA, Mo.—A sizzling summer evening greeted fans and drivers alike as Sunday Night Thunder roared back to life at Double X Speedway. With hot temperatures finally taking hold across the Midwest following a rain-soaked spring, the track was dry, fast, and ready for action. 360 Winged Sprint Cars, Super Stocks, and B Modifieds headlined the night’s program, continuing the long-standing Central Missouri tradition of high-octane Sunday night racing.

The warmer temperatures may have kept some cars away but the racing was competitive among those that did venture out to Double X. Super Stock heat one saw Steve Beach take the early lead only to be passed by Jody Romig on lap three. Romig would lead for the duration with Beach finishing second, Ryan Shikles taking third and Chris Romig completing the running order. The second heat in the class saw Darin Porter move into the top spot and not relinquish the lead until Darek Wiss ran the cushion through turns three and four after picking his way to the second position. On the top side coming out of turn four Wiss was able to edge Porter for the win by half a car length at the checker. In the B Modified heat it was Tyler Potter quickly asserting himself as the car to beat. Following Potter across the stripe was Adam Hall in second. Dawson David in third, Chad Staus in fourth, Tyler Crocker was fifth and Kenny Prince was sixth. Two heat races in the 360 Winged Sprint Cars were contested to set the feature line up. Heat one saw Jaden Alexander take the lead on the green flag and take the point with Tom Curran challenging hard from the second position. After a lap two caution Alexander and Curran ran side by side before Tom Curran was able to move ahead to secure the win. Jack Wagner recovered from a lap two spin to climb to second with Alexander coming across in third. Heat two was all Taylor Walton with the Odessa, MO driver leading green to checker. Samuel Wagner would finish second, Ben Brown third and Emylee Yoder fourth.

Feature event time saw the Super Stocks leading off with Jody Romig and Darek Wiss on the front row of the fifteen lap race. Wiss moved to the point early with Darin Porter quickly closing in. A lap three caution bunched the field behind the leader. At the half way point Porter pulled alongside the leader forcing Wiss to change lines and then used a lapped car as a “pick” to gain some ground while Jody Romig slipped into the second position. That would be the running order for the remainder of the event. Wiss would take the win, Jody Romig second, Darin Porter third, Steve Beach fourth and Dale Berry completing the top five.

The B Modified feature of fifteen laps had Tyler Potter and point leader Adam Hall leading the field to the green flag. Potter wasted no time in going to the lead with Hall giving chase. The field began to settle into a rhythm with Chad Staus and Dawson David battling the hardest for third and fourth. The running order remained the same for the duration of the event. Tyler Potter picking up his second feature win of the season at the track, Hall finished a solid second, David came home third with Staus in fourth and Tyler Crocker finishing fifth. Kenny Prince of Bonner Springs, KS finished sixth in his first visit to Double X.

When the 360 Winged Sprint Cars take to Double X for their feature event there is speed and excitement for all. Taylor Walton came out on top of a side by side first lap with Tom Curran and quickly opened a sizeable lead over the field. A lap eight caution bunched the field behind the leader. On the restart Walton again stepped out to a six car length lead over the Wagner brothers with Jack taking second place away from Samuel on the restart. The field of winged warriors settled into a rhythm with Walton maintain a 12 car length lead over the yellow #77. As the field reached the halfway point Jack Wagner began reeling in the #93 machine of Walton. Walton continued to hit his marks while Wagner was banging the cushion on both ends of the track trying to close the gap. By lap twenty Wagner had closed to within five car lengths of Walton, the leader. Walton was able to open up the spots lost and claim his first win of 2025 at Double X. Jack Wagner finished second, Samuel Wagner third, Ben Brown fourth and Jaden Alexander was fifth.
