Larry Phillips Memorial for Heartland Modified Tour this weekend at Monett

MONETT, Mo.—The biggest single event of the season for the USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels takes place this weekend. The Keyser Manufacturing Larry Phillips Memorial Presented by Schoenfeld Headers and Wehrs Machine will commence from the Monett Motor Speedway in Monett, Missouri.

For the second go around with the HMT, it has expanded this season to a two day event, packed full of racing and remembrance to one of the most elite racers this country has ever seen.

Friday gets the show started with a preliminary night, presented by Bret Givens Construction. The Tour competitors will run for $2,075 to win and $375 to start. Givens is a long time fan of Larry and Terry Phillips and the series staff can't thank him enough for jumping in to help expand the show!

Saturday night has the big money on the line with $7575 earmarked for the winner. In addition to the event purse there is an additional $7575 in lap leader money. The bonus money is $175 per lap led, for laps one through 39. The final lap is $750 and was purchased courtesy of JRT Trucking. Deatherage Opticians has thrown in some additional support as well. The winner will also receive a one of a kind custom Wehrs Machine built trophy, honoring LP.

“We had a great event last season, but are looking for this one to be bigger yet,” said series co-owner Trenton Berry. “Expanding it to two days has been a fun challenge. Obviously none of it happens without Terry's blessing. We are appreciative to him and Monett Motor Speedway for hosting the event. On the business end we couldn't have better partners, Keyser Manufacturing, Schoenfeld Headers and Wehrs Machine are back for this season. These are rock solid companies within our sport, they fit so well. Bret Givens Construction coming in to help us expand this thing to Friday night as well, is a great addition too!”

B-Mods will also take center stage this weekend, with the “Mean Gene Summer Sizzle” running in memory of Gene Morton. Gene was not only a personal friend to many, including the Phillips family, he was a long time employee at Monett Motor Speedway. Honoring the legacy of Gene and Larry this weekend is a true celebration of the impact they each had on motorsports, especially in the Ozarks.

The B-Mods will run a normally scheduled event on Friday paying $750 to win. Saturday the stakes are raised with a $2,363 to win event paying $263 to start, in honor of “Mean Gene.” The Morton Family has worked diligently to create a special event for the B-Mods and have had tremendous support from the racing community in the form of sponsorships and lap money.

The USRA Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels would like to recognize and thank their 2025 season long partners.
