Brandon Horton, Adam Armstrong headline at Eagle Raceway
EAGLE, Nebr.—We had a very rare occurrence at Eagle Raceway Saturday evening as Empire Fence and Netting along with Mammoth Station presented Junior Fan Club Night. We at Eagle take extraordinary pride in running an on time, smoothly and quickly run show. That wasn’t to be, starting with or rather not starting with the heat races.
Mother Nature decided that the track prep crew hadn’t sufficiently watered the track, so just as hot laps were ending she gave us 2 brief showers. That didn’t phase the big crowd in the grandstands who patiently waited, anxious to see 159 race teams tackle the high banks of One Badass Racetrack.
Roger and his crew reworked the track and heats kicked off just 15 minutes late on the refurbished racing surface.
There were no serious incidents in the preliminary action.
At intermission, One Stop Auto Repair sponsored a $1,500 kids money grab on the front stretch.
John Allensworth put his 19X out front on lap 1 of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod A Feature. Close behind were Trevor Noonan in the 66, Roger Sluka’s 5S and the 6SJ of Shawn Pospisil. Arie Schouten passed Pospisil on lap 2 to put the 24RE into fourth place. The following circuit saw Noonan move to the lead as Schouten advanced to third with Pospisil in fourth place. Pospisil slowed dramatically the next lap and ended up pulling into the infield, moving Sluka back to fourth. Gary Saathoff got past Sluka the next lap to put the 96 into the fourth spot. Schouten passed Allensworth on lap 5 to move up to second. Mason Richards looped his 18M in turn 4 on lap 7 to bring out the EastepWheels.com Choose Cone. The lineup for the 2 wide restart was Noonan, Schouten, Saathoff and Allensworth. Saathoff advanced to second on the restart with Adam Vrbka taking fourth in the 7V. Zane Woodman spun out in turn 4 the following lap for another caution. Both Woodman and Schouten headed to the pits. The Choose Cone was brought out again with the top 4 lineup being Noonan, Saathoff, Vrbka and Allensworth. The restart saw Nick Morris loop the 11H in turn 4 to slow the action again. That meant a single file restart with Cole Wayman’s V18W taking the fourth spot. Vrbka passed Saathoff for second on the restart with Wayman following him into third. The 31S of Jacob Swanson and Morris came to a halt in turn 4 with 3 laps to go and the yellow flag flew again. From there to the checkers the top 4 remained unchanged with Noonan winning, Vrbka second, Wayman third and Saathoff in fourth.
Trevor used to be a regular at Eagle Raceway but this was his first appearance there in 2025 and a triumphant victory marked his return. He said “We just got back from Wisconsin where we were racing at 141 Speedway. We came back and put the car on its lid a couple of weeks ago. We started third tonight and got out to the lead pretty early, so that was easy. I just had to hold off Vrbka and Wayman and all the other fast guys. There was some really hard competition, but that makes it fun racing.” Trevor’s sponsors include Jeremy at Leiting Motorsports, Noonan Industries LLC, Suds N' Scissors, Brodd's Small Engine Repair, D&D Refuse Inc. , Slick Stick Shocks LLC, Underdog Design & Drawing, Performance Bodies, The Load Shop, Midstate Machine, Obdons Meats and Sides, K&L
Electric and Slider Chassis.
The A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car Feature saw Matthew Tanner spin his #16 on the front stretch on the first attempt at a start, collecting Tyler Jackson’s 13T, the 84 of Benji Legg, Dana Deeke’s 36 and the 46 of Ryan Gilland. Tanner headed pit side as did Jackson who went to the work area to have the tail piece removed from his car as it had come loose in the incident but he returned to the field. The first official lap saw Deeke in the lead followed by the 35JW of Casey Woken, Austin Boucher’s 5A and Jeremy Down in the #6 your top 4. Boucher grabbed the lead on lap 2 with Woken following him into the second position the next lap with Mason Richards putting the 18M into fourth place. The next lap Jackson spun in turn 3, bringing out the Choose Cone as he was towed to his pit stall. The lineup for the restart was Woken, Boucher, Deeke and Richards. Woken led the ensuing lap with Boucher, Richards and Deeke second through fourth. Trevor Baker got past Deeke to put the 25! Into fourth. Boucher took the top spot on lap 6. Richards also passed Woken for second the next circuit with Baker moving up to third the next time around. Baker passed Richards on the low side the following lap as Woken went high, also passing Richards. Richards moved back to third with 10 to go. Baker tried a slide job with 8 laps left but slid up into Boucher. That slowed them both enough to allow Richards to jump to the lead with Boucher bouncing off of the front stretch wall, collecting Kyle Vanover’s 19 as Chad Andersen slid the 8C to a halt, avoiding the mess. Boucher’s radiator failed, spreading water on the front stretch and causing a lengthy delay as the spill was taken care of. The Choose Cone set the restart with Richards took the pole, Woken went high, Andersen took the low side with Nate Thompson’s 3T taking the outside of row 2. Woken led the restart with Thompson moving up to third. Thompson got past Richards to take over second place on the final lap. That made the top 4 Woken, Thompson, Richards and Andersen.
This was Casey’s very first victory at Eagle Raceway and he delightedly stated “It’s my first win here. We blew the cushion at the Lucas Oil Late Model Show with 3 to go after leading most of the race and haven’t even been close since. It’s really cool! I was just talking to Dan about this. Eagle is so unique and it’s so tough to win here. Any time you roll in and have 35 stock cars and have a C Main on a weekly show it’s going to be tough. It’s a riot!! I’ve said it a couple times before; you can’t explain how fun this place is. Elbows up on the wheel all the time, there’s always stuff happening. I think tonight was even cooler. Looking at Victory Lane, there’s a bunch of guys who haven’t won here a lot. I just…..it’s really exciting, it’s really cool. Tonight speaks about what Eagle really is. It’s 11:53 and there’s lots of places that would just be starting their A Features. It is crazy though, there’s always going to be some Facebook Warriors who like to get online and talk stuff about Eagle, but I don’t think people really understand the operation that Roger really has here. We lost I-80 in the area and what Roger has been able to do is just absurd. Everything here is just second to none. I have to thank Jeremy and Carol at Leiting Motorsports. I was looking around and saw that we had another Slider Chassis in victory lane. I just can’t explain how important Jeremy and Slider have been to our program. I need to thank my wife and kids for allowing me to do this, go with me and they’re the only ones in the pits with me tonight. We had to change a lot of electrical stuff and Ryan Gilland’s crew and the Steinbach’s; I wouldn’t have been able to do anything without those guys. They just jumped in and helped me because they know that I’m short on help. Also, we have an awesome 360 camera and all of the videos get posted on TikTok and they give you a different aspect of this place”. Casey’s sponsors include Twin Rivers Body Shop, Kirkland Construction, Slider Chassis, The Load Shop, Dynamic Drivelines, Jamie Solner, United Rentals, Kent’s Towing, Walter Motor Company and Norton Auto Supply.
Cameron Thompson backed the 2T into the wall at the top of 3 & 4 on the original start of the A Main for the Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars, resulting in a complete restart. That restart saw Cole Wayman’s 18W get loose in turn 1, collecting the 77X of John Klabunde. The first official lap saw Tadd Holliman out front in the 19, Justin Bolte’s 17 second, Alex Davenport third in the 25A with Brandon Horton fourth in the 1B. Cole Vanderheiden got past Horton on lap 2 to put the 15V into fourth. He continued to advance, taking third from Davenport on lap 5. Davenport hit the front stretch wall on lap 8, allowing Horton to regain fourth. Vanderheiden then took second place from Bolte on lap 11. 2 laps later Vanderheiden attempted an ill-fated slide job going into turn 2, hitting Holliman’s left front with his right rear, sending Holliman into the wall and rolling over at the pit exit with a destroyed car. Holliman was not seriously injured. The Choose Cone restart lineup was Horton, Vanderheiden, Adam Gullion’s 91 and Bolte. On the restart Nate Weiler’s 4W got loose collecting Thompson with Davenport nearly climbing the wall out of 4. Weiler’s fuel tank was split, spilling its contents onto the track. That resulted in another lengthy red flag while the fuel spill was taken care of. Horton led on the restart with Vanderheiden second, Gullion third and Bolte fourth. Bolte got too high on lap 15, allowing Billy Alley to take over the fourth spot. Shayle Bade also got too high in turns 3 and 4 with 6 to go and hit the front stretch wall, rolling onto her side for yet another caution. She headed back to her pit on the hook. Officials announced at that time that the time limit for the race had been reached and that the next caution would end the race. A single file restart was called. Alley made contact with Gullion coming out of turn 4 on the restart, sending Gullion flipping. That ended the race with Horton winning, Vanderheiden second, Zachary Patterson third in the #93 and Alley fourth.
This was another hard-fought victory for Brandon at Eagle Raceway in 2025. I asked if he was happy, to which he replied “Yeah! I’ll take that. I think that it was not a great deal that there were so many races that got cut short because it’s not a good way to make the drivers feel. It was a tough track tonight. That was apparent by how many cautions we had throughout the night, but there was one good groove at the top and that’s kind of my sweet spot. Hammer down and go. It probably would have been a different story had I gotten into that lapped traffic and given some of those drivers who are better on the bottom an opportunity to get around me, but luckily it worked out in my favor. I want to give a big thanks to all of my sponsors for helping out. It takes a fresh set of tires if you think you want to win. That was the case tonight and we pulled it off.” Brandon’s sponsors include Kaup Turf, Omaha Barbell, Edwards Auto Group, West Omaha Boat and Jet Ski and Little Smokey Barbecue.
The first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A saw the 4Play of Cody Cadwalader out front with Brayden Hurley’s 38, the 14R of Matt Rotschafer and the 10 of Brad Schreiner close behind him. Hurley took over the lead on lap 2. Schreiner jumped up to second the next lap with Cadwalader dropping to third and Neill Pella putting his 3N into fourth. Dave Carter’s 2C hit the spin cycle in turns 1 and 2 on lap 4 for a caution. Hurley, Schreiner, Cadwalader and Pella were the top 4 after the Choose Cone was put on the front stretch. Pella moved up to third on the restart with Schreiner taking the top spot from Hurley. Cadwalader spun out in turn 4 and into the infield the next time around, moving Schreiner to first, Hurley to second, Pella to third and Trenton Dowty’s 3T to fourth. Cadwalader pulled back onto the racing surface the next lap, just as the field reached him, causing the yellow lights to come on in the corners. Pella, Schreiner, Dowty and Hurley were the top 4 after the Choose Cone was put into play. Hurley passed Dowty for third on the restart but lost the spot back to him on lap 8. Dowty and Hurley moved up to second and third respectively with 9 to go. Dillon Richards, who had to run the C Feature then won the B Feature started in 17 but cracked the top 4 with 8 to go. He passed Dowty the next time around and pulled into second place with just 5 laps to go. He had a huge gap to close if he wished to keep his perfect Eagle Raceway season intact, but Schreiner had flat checked out by then. Try as he might, Richards could not overcome Schreiner’s 3+ second lead. Your final top 4 were Schreiner, Richards, Hurley and Dowty. After the race Richards said that if anyone was going to break his streak, he was glad that it was Schreiner.
This was Schreiner’s first victory of the 2025 season. When I asked Brad how it felt to get the win he stated “My car was hooked up all night. I don’t know why, because I spent the whole week in Texas and never even touched the car. I came home, loaded it up and came here to race. It was just on fire!.” I asked if he planned to do the same this week, to which he replied “We’re gonna try. Maybe I’ll go to Texas for the week again. We won’t change much on the car, just check everything out and just enjoy the week.” Brad’s sponsors include Blue Collar Powder Coating, Bag ‘N Tag Towing and Wendt Insurance.
The draw/redraw class for the week and finishing out the racing action was the Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape. Adam Armstrong took his #60 to the lap 1 lead with Tyler Harr’s 21T, the 25 of Ricky Stephan and Chad Andersen’s 8C rounding out the top 4. Stephan passed Harr on lap 2 for second place. Andersen passed Harr on lap 5 to take over third with Cameron Thompson also getting past Harr the next lap to put the 2T into fourth. Hunter Weber’s 99W and the 3T of Nate Thompson spun in turns 1 and 2 on lap 7 and the yellow lights were lit in the corners. The restart order after the Choose Cone was Armstrong, Stephan, Cameron Thompson and Andersen. Tracy Harr’s 21 climbed the turn 3 wall on the restart but came back down on all four wheels to bring out the yellow flag. Clint Homan’s 27 and the 96 of Jaxon Saathoff spun to a halt in turn 4 on the restart to slow the action yet again. That set up a single file restart. Bob Zoubek’s rear end got loose after contact by Tyler Harr in turn 2 a lap after the restart, collecting Shawn Harker’s #40 to slow the action again. Andersen took advantage of the restart to pass Stephan for second place. Adam Wasserman’s #41 hit the spin cycle in turns 3 and 4 after contact between Tyler Harr and the 81 of Mike Densberger collected Wasserman. The yellow flag flew again. John Saathoff grabbed fourth on the restart when Cameron Thompson made contact with the back stretch wall and ended up pulling into the infield. There were no further changes in the top 4 with Armstrong coming home in first, Andersen second, Stephan third and John Saathoff fourth.
This was Adam’s first modified win in the #60 at Eagle. He said “Oh man! This is almost too cool. We put this deal together in November of last year. I started driving for Spencer, Riley and Lewis last year because they had a hobby stock. I’ve just been out of that class for so long that I had a hard time getting back into the feel of it because of the tough, tough competition in that class. The open wheel stuff kind of turned into what I’m more comfortable with so I told them that I would like to go back to a sportmod. We started pricing things out and then we found this car, race ready and we figured ‘What the heck? Let’s do it.’ We bought this modified, did a few upgrades on it, collected a big old notebook on setups and changes. We’re slowly figuring this out. Tonight was a good example of when you’ve got your ducks in a row things can work out pretty good. Tonight, everything worked out. The car was good, it handled good and the motor ran good. It was just a flawless night for us. I can’t thank Spencer, Riley and Lewis enough for giving me this opportunity. It’s their car, their money and I’m just the one who gets to drive it. I can’t be more thankful. I need to thank Mom, Denny, Dad, Jo, Layne, Ally, and Kady for their support, especially Dad who built this engine for me.”
Adam’s sponsors include S&L Trenching, Goliath Nutrition, Tomahawk Trailer Rentals, Baker Boys Racing Suspension, Matrix Underground Connections LLC, Freedom Tint, Cornhusker Winnelson Company, A to Z Renovations & Improvements, One Shot Auto Repair, All American Drilling, The Stage Virginia Nebraska, All American Jetting and Drain, Leiting Motorsports, Jet Racing, Dale Barnes - The Lords of the Smoke Rings, Roy Armstrong Racing Engines and Jacob Hespen.
Next Saturday is Dirt to Glory Night at Eagle Raceway, presented by Meininger Fire Protection. All 5 classes will be in action, including the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars Avid Realty Sportmods, Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape Modifieds, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks and Nebraska Septic Sprint Cars.
Grandstands open at 5:15, hot laps kick off at 5:45 with racing at 6:30. Adult front gate admission is $15, youths 6-12 just $5 and children 5 and under free.
