SARVER, Pa.—While recovering from injuries sustained at Eldora Speedway last week, multiple leaders in the Kubota High Limit Racing championship chase will be absent from Lernerville Speedway this Tuesday, July 22 during the $25,000-to-win Silver Cup XXXIV.
Tyler Courtney, the full-time driver of the Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC, experienced a vicious multi-car crash on the opening lap of Thursday's Joker's Jackpot. He was transported to a hospital and underwent successful surgery with doctors expecting a full recovery over the next few months.
Aaron Reutzel, the full-time driver of the Ridge & Sons Racing #87, suffered several scary impacts during a crash in Friday's The Knight Before. After being diagnosed with a fractured right foot at the hospital, he and his family have already returned home to Iowa and plan to see a specialist as his recovery begins.
Brad Sweet, the full-time driver of the Kasey Kahne Racing #49, took a brutal hit to the cockpit during Saturday's Kings Royal. He was evaluated at a nearby hospital and discharged that night, but is taking time to recover from plenty of soreness and a concussion. "The Big Cat" is back home in California with his family and hopes to be back on track soon.
While the Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC plans to run driver Cole Duncan at Lernerville, the Kasey Kahne Racing #49 and Ridge & Sons Racing #87 will utilize Medical Provisionals set forth by the Kubota High Limit Racing rulebook. The rule reads as follows, with the rulebook downloadable here:
"Medical provisionals will be granted to a driver that has an accident with injuries needing some extra days to heal. These provisionals will be granted in a 10-day period and that driver and/or car will receive points for their average finishing position plus five spots. The driver must have gone to a reputable doctor in the 10-day period approved by High Limit officials. If the owner would like to race with a different driver during this time, they can, but will not receive the guaranteed points. The owner will receive points for their finishing position on that night. After 10 days, the driver may be granted one extension if needed and approved by High Limit officials. The first two weeks will not be eligible for Medical Provisionals in 2025. After those weekends, an average finishing position can be calculated. The two weekends will apply to new teams in following years. Returning cars will receive their average finish from the year prior if needed in the first two weekends."
By rule, the Medical Provisional will grant the two teams the following points: Kasey Kahne Racing #49 will receive 51-points due to a rounded 6.3 average finish plus five positions. Ridge & Sons Racing #87 will receive 49-points due to a rounded 6.8 average finish plus five positions.
It was announced this afternoon that following Lernerville Speedway, Giovanni Scelzi will run the remainder of the Kubota High Limit Racing season in the Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC as Tyler Courtney continues to recover.
Amidst a historically tight championship battle, the top-five in the Kubota High Limit Racing standings are as follows entering Tuesday:
Kasey Kahne Racing #49 - 1,523 points (-)
Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC - 1,511 points (-12)
Ridge & Sons Racing #87 - 1,500 points (-23)
Rico Abreu Racing #24 - 1,486 points (-37)
