Tyler Drueke tops IMCA Sprints at Eagle Raceway

EAGLE, Nebr.—A typical late August day greeted the large crowd that filed through the front gates of One Badass Racetrack, Eagle Raceway Saturday for Junior Fan Club Night presented by Quasar Drive-In, Lincoln Stars, Nebraska Septic and Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape. The pits were filled with 140 race teams, itching to hit the high banked 1/3 mile.

With just Saturday and next Saturday left of the regular season, 4 of the 5 class points chases were still up for grabs and everyone knew that it would be a heated battle to the end.

There were 2 serious incidents in the preliminary racing action. First, in heat 2 for the Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver Sprints Billy Alley got a little too high in turn 1, began to bounce, hit the wall with his front end and ended up flipping up over the Armco and becoming entangled in the catch fence.

Then, in heat 2 for the Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape IMCA Modifieds the right front tire from Hunter Weber’s racecar came off as her approached turn 1. It bounced up and over the catch fence and landed amongst the haulers in the pits. Nobody was seriously injured.

At intermission all the young fans 12 and under were invited to take a ride around Eagle Raceway in a real race car and several hundred took advantage of the opportunity.

Lap 1 of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod A Main was led by the 14M of Dan Latture with Amber Cook’s 9, the 73Z of Zane Woodman and Bobby Draper’s 62 rounding out the top 4. Gary Saathoff passed Draper on lap 3 to put the #96 into fourth place. Cook grabbed the lead the following lap. Noah Williams joined the top 4 after another lap jumping up to third in the 27W. Lap 6 saw Woodman regain fourth. Luke Williams and Trevor Noonan got together in turns 1 and 2 on lap 7 and the yellow flag was displayed. It also saw the first appearance of the night for the Eastepwheels.com Choose Cone. The subsequent top 4 were Cook, Latture, Noah Williams and Woodman. Noah Williams grabbed the lead on the restart as Cole Wayman vaulted all of the way up to second in his V18W with Cook and Saathoff third and fourth. Dan Latture got sideways on the front stretch with 9 to go after contact with the 7F of Aiden Floyd, collecting the 2A of Theron Ahlman with Mary Hahn’s 17 going to the infield to avoid the incident and Beau Riffel’s 413 and the 9X of Lauren Cook spinning out. The Choose Cone came out again with Noah Williams, Wayman, Cook and Saathoff leading the pack. The restart saw Randy Fox’s 09RX spin on the front stretch, bring out a caution. Wayman took advantage of the restart to snag the lead with Noah Williams, Saathoff and the 44D of Derek Hall second through fourth. From there to the finish the top 4 remained unchanged with Wayman, Noah Williams, Saathoff and Hall your top 4.

The victory, coupled with Adam Vrbka’s 7th place finish in the feature sewed up the season points championship for Wayman. As always, Cole was all smiles when I greeted him with a “Hi Champ” and congratulated him on a great run after moving up towards the front so quickly. He stated, “I haven’t seen you in a while” to which I replied, “It isn’t my fault” and we both laughed. “We got some clean air and I just ran through the middle and some of the cautions helped me out a lot. The Choose Cone let me line up front row outside there about halfway through the race and we were able to pull it off.” I then asked if he was anxious for the IMCA Racesaver Nationals, to which he replied “Yeah! I’m pretty excited for it. We’ve got 1 more week left in the regular season, and we locked up the Sportmod Championship tonight. Right now, we’ve got to get the sprint car a little better. Tonight was probably the slickest track we’ve been on so if we can get tuned up a little bit better for the track conditions that we’re going to have for Friday night at the Nationals I think we’ll  be good.” Cole’s sponsors include: Vermeer High Plains, Fox Automotive, Leiting Motorsports, Hertz Car Rental, Zoz Farms, Cherney Enterprises, Kings Auto Supply, Larson Construction, Uribe Refuse, Noonan Industries LLC and Mom & Dad.

Austin Boucher looped his 5A in turn 4 on the first circuit of the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car finale as Travis Patterson’s 17TK spun to a stop short of Boucher. The first official lap saw the 72 of Mike Lineberry, Scott Carlson’s 1C, the 29 of John Mayer and Trevor Baker’s 25! your top 4. Tommy Etherton jumped up to third the next time around in the 24T with Tim Drake moving up to fourth in the 55X. Trevor Baker passed Drake for fourth on lap 7 in the 25! and moved to third the next lap as Etherton took over second place. Dylan Haney spun the 12X out in turns 1 and 2 on lap 10 for a caution and the Choose Cone came out. The restart order was Lineberry, Baker, Drake and Etherton. Baker took over the top spot on the restart with Lineberry second, Drake third and Etherton fourth. Mason Richards suffered a flat tire the next time after contact with Nathan Landauer’s 11N for another caution. He headed to the hot pit for a new tire and rejoined the field. The Choose Cone lineup was Lineberry, Baker, Drake and Etherton. Baker grabbed the lead back on the restart. 1 lap later Cash Beckman’s 44X came to a halt on the front stretch after Nick Steir’s #8 slid up into him coming out of turn 4. Richards took to the infield with mechanical problems and headed to the pits ending his night. The single file restart showed the top 4 unchanged. Chad Andersen jumped his 8C up to the third spot with 10 to go moving Drake back to fourth. Andersen then passed Lineberry for second with 7 laps left. Nathan Landauer passed Drake with just 2 laps left to put the 11N into fourth. Baker won by nearly a straightaway with Andersen second, Lineberry third and Landauer fourth. Baker’s engine exploded shortly after crossing the finish line with a huge fire under the hood and smoke billowing high into the night sky. Trevor managed to extricate himself from the car as the 4 Corners Fire & Safety crew went to work extinguishing the flames. Andersen’s second place finish coupled with Richards’ 20th finish allowed Andersen to overcome Richards’ lead and take a 1-point advantage into next week’s final points night.

I told Trevor that wasn’t the way to try for the Gatsby Glass Party On Award and he said “Firey! Firey victory is what that is. I don’t know what happened, but there’s a hole in the block at the #1 cylinder. I crossed the finish line, got out of the gas because the race was over and kaboom!! Everybody’s telling me that it always runs best right before it blows. We won the heat and won the feature; what do you do?” I asked if that was his first win this year, and he said it was. “I won here in 2021 but this is my first year back at Eagle since then.” I asked if we would see him next week for the season’s last regular points night and he replied, “No. We already had the motor rebuilt once this year.” Trevor’s sponsors include J&J Racing Engines, BSB Racing Shocks and his Mom and Dad.

The Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver Sprints were up next. Trevor Serbus put the  #10 out front of lap 1 with Brayden Greubel’s 99 second, Mike Boston third in the 51 and Tige Jensen fourth in the 24X. Jensen spun to the infield on lap 2, making hard contact with the implement tire guarding the light pole in turns 3 & 4. He was towed to the pits with significant front-end damage, ending his night. The Choose Cone was placed on the front stretch with the restart lineup being Serbus, Greubel, Adam Gullion’s 91 and Boston. Gullion snagged the lead on the restart followed by Serbus, Boston and the 12T of Tyler Drueke. Boston got around Serbus for second on lap 4 and Drueke followed him into third the next circuit. Drueke then got past Boston on lap 9 to take over second place with Serbus also passing Boston for second. Travis Patterson spun his 14T out in turn 2 the next circuit to bring the Choose Cone out once again. The restart lineup was Gullion, Drueke, Troy Sanford’s 12 and Serbus. Sanford passed Drueke on the restart to take over second place but lost the spot back to Drueke on lap 13. Cole Wayman looped the 18W in turn 4 the next circuit for a caution. The single file restart saw Drueke take the lead away from Gullion. Serbus got past Sanford for third the following lap but lost it back to him with 7 to go. Your top 4 remained unchanged to the finish with Drueke, Gullion, Sanford and Serbus the top 4.
I mentioned to Tyler that this race took me back to the 360 days. I told him

That’s the way that a sprint car race should be run at Eagle; 2 lanes with the cushion up against the wall and cars just flying around the track.” He replied “The track was slick and wide, up against the fence or catfishing around the tires. There were 2 lanes, two options and it was pretty racey. I had to use both lanes and move around to figure out what my car would and wouldn’t do. We won’t be here next week, but we’ll be back in two weeks for the Nationals.” I asked if he planned to win and he stated “No promises! We’re going to come back here, try to make our car fast and see what happens.” Tyler’s sponsors include Forbes Motorsports, Cherney Enterprises, LLC, American Trailer Co. , Drueke Trucking & Ranch, Zoz Farms, Jeffres Trucking LLC, Angels Energy Service, Johnson Farms, Kings Auto Supply, Jimbell, Double Z Express, Gordon Electric Inc., Midwest Racing Performance, J&J Auto Racing, Speedway Motors Racing Engines and Victory Fuel.

Lap 1 of the A Main for the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks was led by the 23 of Dawson Kubes followed by Coedy Muth in the Z00M, Brad Burhenne’s 65 and the 3N of Neil Pella. Pella moved up to third on lap 2, putting Burhenne back in fourth and moved up to second on lap 4. Nick Jensen spun the 48J out in turn 2 the next time around, bringing out the Choose Cone. The lineup was Pella, Kubes, Burhenne and Muth. Pella took the lead on the restart as Dan Markham passed Burhenne to put the 6 into fourth. Dillon Richards got around Markham the next lap, putting the 24R into fourth but Dave Carter’s 2C spun to a stop in turns 1 and 2. The Choose Cone lineup was Pella, Kubes, Burhenne and Richards. Richards and the 19H of Colin Hein both passed Burhenne on the restart for third and fourth places. The following circuit saw Richards move up to second and take the lead from Pella with 9 to go as Markam again took over the fourth position. Markham got past Kubes 2 laps later to move to third. Colin Hein spun Kubes with 4 to go. Both drivers continued but that allowed Muth to move back up to fourth. That was the final change in the top 4 with Richards, Pella, Markham and Muth your top 4.

This was Richards’ 12th victory this season at Eagle Raceway and brought his total win amount to 44 on the year. He stated “We should have won 2 weeks ago, but we had some rough goes. The track then was hard to pass on and it seemed that people tried to take me out every chance that they got. We held on for fourth that time, and we’ll take it; what else can you do?? We’re tied for the IMCA National points with a guy in Minnesota, so we’re going to skip Eagle next week and head up to Minnesota to race against him.” Dillon’s sponsors include Superior Steering Wheels, Koozer Painting, Fester’s Bait and Tackle, Swift Racing Springs, S & L Trenching, Noonan Industries LLC, Multi Fire Plug Wires, Aero Wheels, Integra Shocks, Backspin Entertainment, Van’s Waterproofing, Toy Scout, Nelson Tree Service, Cat’s Fireworks, Seven2Carts, Epp Farms, Wiring Solutions, Precision Auto Tune Inc., Neapco, In Memory of Jr Craig, In Memory of Tom Miller, Troy Cepak, Jet Racing, Extreme Motorsports, Schafer’s Oil, Schoenfeld Headers, Inline Healing, 4G’s Powder Coating and Freese Farms.

The final A Feature of the night was for the Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape IMCA Modifieds. Clint Homan put his #27 out front of lap 1 with Adam Wasserman second in the 41A, Tyler Harr’s 21T third and the 96 of Jaxon Saathoff in fourth. Adam Armstrong jumped the #60 up to third on lap 2 moving Saathoff back to fourth. Shawn Harker passed Saathoff the next lap to put the #40 into fourth. Aaron Pella spun the 3A out in turn 2 the next time around for a caution. The Choose Cone lineup was Homan, Wasserman, Armstrong and Harker. That top 4 held on the restart. Armstrong passed Wasserman for second on Lap 4. The next circuit saw Harker jump all of the way up to second place when Armstrong got too high in both turns 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Wasserman retained third with Ricky Stephan’s 25 advancing to fourth place. Saathoff regained fourth place on lap 8. Harker snatched the lead away from Homan with 10 to go. Harker held on for the victory with Homan second, Wasserman third and Saathoff fourth.

This was win #5 in 2025 for Shawn and his fourth in a row, giving him a 33-point advantage over Chad Andersen in the points standings. I told him that “Now you’re just being greedy, winning 4 in a row” and he just laughed. He related “Clint was on the bottom and I worked my way up there and found a good line, working the middle to the top. I tried to keep my momentum and had a good run. The track was smooth and you can’t ask for much more. There was 2 lanes; you could run the top or bottom. The bottom was a little bit better for me off of turn 4 but we made the top work fast too”. Shawn’s sponsors include Rage Chassis, Speedway Shocks, Jet Racing, Patriot Crane and Rigging, Shark Bait Candy, “R” Cart Services, Noonan Industries, King Equipment, Patriot Heavy Haul, Tex Cattle. Speedway Racing Engines and Final Grade.

The evening finished with a round of Hooptie Hockey. 3 drivers from the Stock Car Class and 3 drivers from the Sprint Car Class attempted to push the puck ‘Implement Tire’ across their opponent’s goal 3 times. In the end, the event was called off when Benji Legg’s mount caught fire. The win was awarded to the Stock Car Class.

Next Saturday is the final regular season night of the year. It’s Curtain Call Championship Night, presented by Avid Realty, Empire Fence, S&L Trenching and Nebraska Septic. All 5 classes will be in action, including the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars, Avid Realty Sportmods, Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape Modifieds, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks and Nebraska Septic Sprint Cars.
