Bloomfield Secures 360 top prize at Gold Cup
CHICO, Calif.—The 71st Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by NOS Energy Drink kicked off Wednesday night with Oakley’s Dylan Bloomfield securing the 30-lap win. With the win, Bloomfield picked up the $7,100 paycheck. The race tonight was in tribute to former track and Gold Cup promoters John and Robbie Padjen. Lebanon, IN driver Spencer Bayston battled with Jesse Schlotfeldt most of the race. Bayston secured the second spot at the finish line. Schlotfeldt, from Arlington, WA, earned the final podium spot. Clovis driver Dominic Gorden drove up to a fourth-place spot. Jacksonville, OR star Tanner Holmes rounded out the top five.
A total of 38 cars entered the first night of the Gold Cup.
The 15-lap B main event was dominated by Carson Hall of Grass Valley. Transferring to the A main with Hall was Josh Young, Braden Chiaramonte, and Shane Hopkins.
Bloomfield won the six-lap dash to secure the pole. Bayston finished second. Justin Sanders finished in third spot.
Sanders was the fastest in group A qualifying with a lap of 11.871. Spencer Bayston was the quickest in group B with a lap of 11.813.
Joel Myers Jr. won the first heat race. Holmes dominated the second heat race. Austin Wood held off Bayston to win the third heat race. Schlotfeldt won the fourth and final heat race.
