Johnson, Isaacs, Kaplan among winners at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, Mo.—An action-packed night of racing at I-35 Speedway went down this past Saturday night. 107 total cars hit the track across 9 different classes, all bringing some excitement of their own. Tonight was also Scobee Powerline Construction night at the races. There were multiple prize giveaways, including 2 huge Artic coolers courtesy of Scobee Powerline. We also welcomed the Show-Me Vintage Racing series back to I-35 Speedway for the 2nd time this season.
Moving into on track action, the E-Modifieds rolled out first for feature action. Tony Layne found himself in the right place at the right time and was able to secure the feature win, Layne’s 11th win this season. Layne was chasing down Chris Dishong for the race lead, before Dishong made contact with a slower car in front of him entering turn 1, which would end Dishong’s race early. Garrett Stonum finished in 2nd, Aaron Jones in 3rd, Shaun Pederson in 4th and Mark Anderson scored in 5th.
Late Models were up next, where Houston Johnson couldn’t be caught and would collect his 5th feature win in the Late Models this season. Tommy Cordray finished in 2nd, Paul Glendenning grabbed the heat race win before finishing 3rd in the feature race, Michael King in 4th and Brandon Barnes in 5th.
Jr. Sport Compacts had Rylie Robb winning his 3rd feature race of the year. Derek Johnson finished 2nd, Robert Miller 3rd, and Wesson Dean in 4th.
It was a survival of the fittest in the Pure Stock feature race. After multiple front-runners had issues during the race, AJ Sayers drove up from a 7th place starting position to go back-to-back in Pure Stock feature wins. Cameron Seager finished in 2nd, Steven Ramilo led a few laps before finishing 3rd, Christopher Rainey in 4th and Aaron Myers rounded out the top 5.
The Show-Me Vintage Racing feature was up next, where Chad Eickleberry, who also started 7th, had to drive up through the field to grab the feature win. Damon Clevenger started 11th and finished in 2nd, John Martin in 3rd, Dan Schmidt in 4th and Allen Clark in 5th.
USRA B-Modifieds had some familiar faces battling for the race win, At the end, Ethan Isaacs was able to sneak away and secure his 4th feature win at I-35 this season, his first since June 14th. Adam Dunwoodie and Daniel Harris were right there but just weren’t able to catch Isaacs, Dunwoodie finished 2nd and Harris 3rd. Chase Moulton finished in 4th and John Ross in 5th.
USRA Stock Car feature race had Austin Kaplan use his front row starting spot to collect the feature win. This was the 2nd feature win at I-35 this season and first since May 3rd. Tyler Cadwallader drove up to finish in 2nd, Jayden Bears in 3rd, Rodney Schweizer in 4th and Kristchon Hisel started 13th before finishing in 5th.
Houston Johnson found himself in Victory Lane again tonight, this time in the USRA Modifieds. This was Johnon’s 15th feature win in the modifieds this season. Nick Roberts led multiple laps and didn’t make it easy for Johnson but ultimately would finish in 2nd. Steven Glenn finished 3rd, Tyler Grooms in 4th and Brad Johnson finished in 5th.
A new face in Victory Lane came in the Sport Compact feature race, as Devin Harrell made some moves late to secure his first feature win this season. David Miller finished in 2nd, Chris Lewis in 3rd, Ryan Hinkle 4th and Joshua Robb grabbed a top 5 finish.
