Tad Pospisil tops Malvern Bank Late Model West Series at Lakeside Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kansas—A familiar face returned to victory lane Friday as Tad Pospisil put on a stellar showing in the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing West Series’ return to Lakeside Speedway.

The third to last race of the 2025 season saw the West Series take on the lightning-fast Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. A field of 21 cars from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Colorado made the trip for a shot at a $3,000 payday.

Corey Zeitner took overall fast time honors in Keyser Manufacturing Qualifying. The Bennington, Nebraska driver clocked in at 17.451 seconds to lead group 2. The first group was headed by Dylan Sillman as he laid down a 17.534 second lap time. The third and final group was topped by a 17.585 second lap set by Curt
Schroeder.

The three heat races were won by Dave Eckrich, Charlie McKenna and West Series Point Leader Jesse Sobbing. After the points were tallied, Dylan Sillman was the top point driver. However, after motor issues plagued the Alvo, Nebraska driver, he declined the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Bonus. This allowed Eckrich to have the honor to try and add $1,400 to his total should he win the feature.

When the drivers returned for the night’s 25-lap Malvern Bank Main Event, West Series Rookie of the Year Point Leader, Jacob Hobscheidt, sat on pole position with Andrew Kosiski to the outside. Hobscheidt took the lead early but was quickly challenged by Tad Pospisil who started in fourth. Hobscheidt led the opening lap before Pospisil took control on lap, and he would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the race.

The first of 2 incidents came out on lap 3 when a 2-car spin in turns 3 and 4 brought out the caution. Corey Zeitner and Charlie McKenna both went around, and while Zeitner would continue on, McKenna would head back to the pit area. He would finish 20th.

The biggest incident came just two laps later when Jay Norton caught the turn three embankment sending the car into the air and rolled multiple times over the wall and off the speedway. This brought out the red flag, and thankfully, Norton was able to walk away from the wreck.

Once the field was re-aligned, the race resumed. Pospisil continued to lead while Andrew Kosiski and Jacob Hobscheidt battled for second.  Meanwhile, Kyle Berck made his way into the top five to battle Troy Daly and Bill Leighton Jr. for fourth. Daly would eventually head into the infield late the going leaving Leighton and Berck to settle the score.

The biggest mover on the night was Richmond, Missouri’s Aaron Marrant. He worked his way to the eighth position after starting back in 18th. Another strong run came from Don Geist. After a second-place run in his heat race, the Burlington, Colorado driver took home his first career Malvern Bank Series Top 10 finish as he took ninth.

Meanwhile, no one could catch Tad Pospisil. The Norfolk, Nebraska native led 24 of 25 laps to capture his third win of the 2025 season and his 48th career Malvern Bank feature victory. The win was also Pospisil’s fourth with the series at Lakeside Speedway which made him the winningest driver at the track.
Andrew Kosiski took second while Jacob Hobscheidt recorded his best finish of the year with third just six days after his fourth-place run at Knoxville. Bill Leighton Jr. took fourth, while Kyle Berck finished out the top five.

Only two races remain on the 2025 calendar for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series. The West Series finishes out the final doubleheader weekend of the year with the tour’s debut at the U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Missouri. Then, on October 4th, both East and West tours return to action one final time at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa for Championship Night at the 3rd annual Pumpkin Dash.
