Corey Zeitner Wires Malvern Bank Series West Debut at US 36 Raceway
OSBORN, Mo.—Corey Zeitner broke through and got his first win of the season in Saturday’s Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series’ first-ever visit to U.S. 36 Raceway.
The second to last race of the 2025 season saw the West Series make their first trip to the high-banked 1/3-mile bullring in Osborn, Missouri. U.S. 36 became the fourth different track in Missouri to host the Malvern Bank Series, which was the most in the Show-Me State in a single year. Drivers from Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado made the trip to Osborn for a beautiful Saturday night of action.
West Series Rookie of the Year Point Leader, Jacob Hobscheidt, set the fastest lap in Keyser Manufacturing Qualifying with a time of 13.063 seconds in group 1. That lap was mere .002 seconds quicker than Bill Leighton Jr. who topped the second group with a 13.065 second time.
Later in the night, Dave Eckrich and Kyle Berck won the two heat races on the night. Hobscheidt came back as the top point driver which gave him the first chance at the $1,600 Skylline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starter bonus. He turned down the challenge leaving the bonus money opportunity to go to Tad Pospisil should he win the feature.
Corey Zeitner and Dave Eckrich were the front-row starters for Saturday’s 25-lap Malvern Bank Main Event. Zeitner quickly slid to the top lane, and the
Bennington, Nebraska driver would proceed to pull away from the rest of the field.
As the race progressed, Jacob Hobscheidt challenged Bill Leighton Jr. and then later Jesse Sobbing for a spot on the podium. Sobbing would later fade to fourth before being challenged by his championship rival Tad Pospisil.
Paul Glendenning brought out the only caution of the feature when he spun out in turn one with only four laps remaining. On the ensuing restart, Zeitner went to the bottom in turn one to block a potential run from Hobscheidt. And from there, Zeitner ran out the laps taking all 25 for himself to secure his first win of 2025.
Zeitner’s win was his 12th career win putting him in sole possession of 6th place on the all-time wins list, and it snapped a 51-race drought since winning the inaugural Pumpkin Dash in 2023.
Jacob Hobscheidt recorded his new career-best finish with a second place backing his third-place run from Lakeside Speedway the night before. Bill Leighton Jr. took third while Jesse Sobbing finished fourth, and Tad Pospisil rounded out the top five.
With Lakeside and U.S. 36 in the books, the final race of the 2025 season is all that remains for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series. Both East and West tours will battle one last time this year for the third annual Pumpkin Dash at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa. When the checkered flag falls, two champions will be crowned.
