Schultz sets fast time as qualifying kicks off Big Buck 50 at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO.—The 9th annual Hickamo Super Stocks Big Buck 50 Presented by Whitetail Trophy Hunt got underway Thursday night at Lucas Oil Speedway with Terry Schultz of Sedalia posting the fast qualifying time.

Schultz earned the $500 Fast Time Bonus by TJR Motorsports with a lap of 18.144 seconds. That was enough to lead Group 1 ahead of Kris Lloyd of Peach Orchard, Ark., who posted a lap of 18.523 seconds.

Leading Group 2 in time trials was Neil Kemp of Mineral Springs, Ark., at 18.420, edging out Taylor Carver of Lockesburg, Ark., who had a lap of 18.446.

A total of 85 Super Stocks checked into the pits for the qualifying sessions with several Late Models joining in for an open test and tune prior to the Big Buck 50 time trials. Action continues on Friday night with 10 heat races, lined up from the time trials.

The heat-race results on Friday will help set lineups for Saturday night's B Mains and A Main fields. The 50-lap main event on Saturday will pay $10,000 to win, plus a spot in the exclusive Whitetail Trophy Hunt in mid-Missouri this November.

It also was announced on Thursday that Alamo Arms of Montreal, Mo., will award $500 to the first non-qualifier not to make the Big Buck 50 main event. Ray's Lake Service will pay out $500 to the Hard Charger in the 50-lap A Feature.

The Late Model Fall Nationals have full programs set for Friday and Saturday nights with qualifying, heat races, B Mains and A Features. The main event winners will earn $5,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Past winners of the Big Buck 50 along are Peyton Taylor (2024, 2020 and 2019), Tony Anglin (2017), Tim Brown (2016), Jeremy Russell (2015) and Schultz (2014). The event was rained out in 2018 and there was not a Big Buck from 2021-23.
