Reece Solander posts first-ever USRA victory at Amarillo
AMARILLO, Texas—Night two of the Texas Two-Step at Route 66 Motor Speedway saw a breakout moment deep in the heart of the Texas panhandle as Reece Solander finally shook the monkey off his back and scored his first-ever USRA sanctioned Modified victory, capping the night after also laying down Deatherage Opticians Quick Time in qualifying.
Before the sun fully dipped behind the Amarillo horizon, heat race wins went to Sammy McNabb, Terry Phillips, Reece Solander, and Tyler Davis, setting the tone for what turned into a bruising 35-lap main event.
After the redraw, it was Tyler Davis putting the field under fire at the green flag, jumping to an early lead and setting a fierce pace on the fast Texas clay. Solander, rolling off from fourth, wasted no time—picking his way forward and slipping by Davis just as the race approached halfway.
But the night wasn’t done throwing punches. B Feature transfers Tanner Mullens and Rodney Sanders, both buried deep in the lineup, came through the pack like they were shot out of a cannon. Mullens charged all the way into the top five and began stalking the leaders just as the yellow flags began to dominate the race.
The final third of the feature turned into a caution-riddled brawl, and just like night one, Mullens once again looked like a threat for the win—until heartbreak struck. Mechanical issues sidelined him inside the final ten laps, drawing one of the race’s last cautions and ending his run for a Texas sweep.
That final restart saw Sanders rip past Davis into second, but Solander was already gone—hitting his marks and charging to the checkers to lock down a long-awaited win on the traveling stage.
In victory lane, Solander exhaled a season’s worth of frustration: "I knew I needed to get the lead as quick as I could there without hurting my tires. Davis was tough to get around, but luckily we were able to get to the lead. I could hear Tanner's number creeping up there in the order late and he's been really good lately so I was getting really nervous. I felt like it started taking rubber there late and knew I just needed to hit my marks to get the job done. It feels so good to get this monkey off our back and get this first big win. I can't thank all of my team and sponsors enough. A big shout out to the track for the show they put on and the purse they paid this weekend. This is awesome."
With just two nights remaining on the ARMS calendar, Kale Westover continues to control the championship lead, but the real knife fight is just behind him. Manuel Williams II, Joe Duvall, and Sean Gaddis are separated by just nine points between second and fourth, with Gary Christian still mathematically alive in fifth and looking to capitalize if trouble strikes ahead of him.
The USRA American Racer Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports now heads to the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Fort Worth on November 7th and 8th, where the final two rounds of the season will settle the championship and decide who leaves 2025 as the last man standing in the Lone Star State
