routman, Pedulla, Strickler, Oedewaldt Win Showdown Features at Reutimann Memorial at Volusia
BARBERVILLE, Fla.—The 12th edition of the Emil and Dale Reutimann Memorial opened with drivers chasing 20 available spots to set the stage for Saturday’s $10,000-to-win finale.
Among the 40 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds that arrived for the weekend at Volusia Speedway Park, it was Drake Troutman, Stephen Pedulla, Kyle Strickler, and Zane Oedewaldt leaving with the Discount Towing Showdown Feature trophies.
Multi-division track champion Jason Garver took a victory lap by sweeping Feature wins in the 602 Late Models and Factory Stocks to complete Friday’s portion of the marquee event at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile.”
Here is how each Showdown Feature played out:
Discount Towing Showdown Feature #1
In Drake Troutman’s first Reutimann Memorial start since 2023, it did not take him long to find his groove around the 0.5-mile track.
Driving the No. 5 Elite Chassis, the Hyndman, PA native began the evening with the South Shore Auto Repair Fast Time honors, then dominated the opening Showdown Feature by leading all 15 laps.
Troutman found comfort around the cushion from the drop of the green flag as Mitch Thomas held onto second place using the middle lane.
Behind the two leaders, multiple cars battled for a transfer spot into Saturday’s event, including Treb Jacoby, Blake Tasker, and Mark Anderson. While racing for third place on the final lap, Tasker spun and opened the door for Dillon Buhr to steal the final spot in the top five.
Between the two frontrunners, Thomas was unable to keep Troutman in his crosshairs as the World of Outlaws Real American Beer presented by DIRTVision Rookie of the Year took the checkered flag by over four seconds ahead of the No. 97.
After finishing second, Thomas joins Troutman in the Feature Redraw. Occupying spots inside the top five transfers include Jacoby, Anderson, and Buhr.
“The track’s a lot different than what it was whenever we were down here earlier this year,” Troutman said. “I think definitely for the better, they did a really good job with everything. It’s smooth, and I think the racetrack altogether is a lot better. So, kudos to those guys and thanks to the whole Reutimann family for putting this deal on for us.”
Showdown Feature 1 (15 Laps): 1. 5-Drake Troutman[1]; 2. 97-Mitch Thomas[3]; 3. J82-Treb Jacoby[6]; 4. 43A-Mark Anderson[4]; 5. 24B-Dillon Buhr[5]; 6. 00-Blake Tasker[2]; 7. 23-Kevin Dugger[7]; 8. 52-Mikey Kopka[8]; 9. 25-Greg Belyea[9]; 10. (DNS) 2-Devin Dixon
Discount Towing Showdown Feature #2
Making his second attempt at winning the Reutimann Memorial, Stephen Pedulla will be in prime position after 15 laps in the second Showdown Feature of the evening.
The Kannapolis, NC driver rolled to the green flag from the outside of the front row and attempted to outrun Chris Spalding, but did not have enough speed to defend the top spot and conceded to hold second place.
Pedulla kept Spalding within a 0.7-second gap and waited for the No. 29 machine to make a vital mistake to put the two in a crucial duel to victory. When Spalding’s line became worn out with five laps remaining, he had to adjust to the top while Pedulla kept his No. 31G to the bottom lane.
Pedulla reached Spalding’s rear end as the white flag flew and drag raced across the backstretch, culminating with Pedulla completing the pass with a slide job through Turns 3-4 to steal his first Reutimann Memorial Showdown triumph.
While Pedulla and Spalding visit the Redraw, Tyler Nicely, Kyle Hammer, and UMP Modified track champ Jason Garver scored a guaranteed place in the $10,000-to-win finale.
“This is the best racing surface I have ever been on in my life,” Pedulla said. “I mean, it was top, it was middle, it was bottom. You could race, it slowed down. I could gain on the bottom, (Spalding) was running the top, getting freer and freer. I mean, hats off to whoever figured it out, whoever found this dirt, whoever did it, because it’s bad to the bone.
“Anybody who’s thinking about coming up here to race (DIRTcar Nationals), come on, because this racetrack is awesome. I mean, it’s going to be different again tomorrow. You just got to find the brown. It’s so slick in the black that you find brown, you get a little bit of traction, you keep it straight, and that’s how I beat them.”
Showdown Feature 2 (15 Laps): 1. 31G-Stephen Pedulla[2]; 2. 29-Chris Spalding[1]; 3. 7-Tyler Nicely[3]; 4. 150-Kyle Hammer[4]; 5. 27-Jason Garver[7]; 6. 07-Eric Moon[6]; 7. 33M-Jeff Mathews[5]; 8. G34-Rob Giffen[9]; 9. 96-Matt Johnson[10]; 10. 21-Devin McLeod[8]
Discount Towing Showdown Feature #3
Kyle Strickler is ready to defend his Reutimann Memorial tractor on Saturday.
The “High Side Tickler” used every inch of the Volusia cushion for 15 laps to win his second consecutive Showdown Feature while fending off a familiar face in national dirt Late Model competition.
Strickler took the lead by driving from the bottom to the top lane as Ethan Dotson and Todd Neiheiser raced each other for second place. Neiheiser got the best of the World of Outlaws driver as Ray Kable and Austin Self held the final transfer spots.
Neiheiser began to struggle around the top of the track, which allowed Dotson to take second place as the No. 72 Elite Chassis felt the pressure of Kable, Self, and Harris fighting for a top-five position.
As Neiheiser and Kable went door-to-door off the exit of Turn 2 on Lap 10, Clay Harris ducked to the bottom of the track and slid clear of the two drivers through Turns 3-4. Ahead of them, Strickler ran away from Dotson by 3.1 seconds to cross the finish line for his fourth visit to Victory Lane at Volusia in 2025.
Dotson punched his ticket to the Redraw with second place as Harris, Kable, and Neiheiser finished with a top five result.
“Now that I’m getting older, it’s more of a technical, old man smart,” Strickler said. “Just winning with your head and not just your right foot. It’s extremely technical, but you can’t complain at all because there’s grip in places and slick in places. So you gotta really pay attention to where you’re at on the racetrack, and it’s extremely racey.
“Even when I got to lap traffic, you can kind of stop and cross over, and it’s not one-lane dominant around the top or right around the bottom. This place is so fast and technical that the new surface has been absolutely great so far, and it’s really smooth.”
Showdown Feature 3 (15 Laps): 1. 8S-Kyle Strickler[1]; 2. 99-Ethan Dotson[2]; 3. 21J-Clay Harris[4]; 4. 23K-Ray Kable[6]; 5. 72-Todd Neiheiser[3]; 6. 23Z-Austin Self[8]; 7. 78-Rich Pratt[5]; 8. 00B-Buzzie Reutimann[7]; 9. 3D-Makayla Tyrrell[9]; 10. (DNS) 22-Ronnie Chance
Discount Towing Showdown Feature #4
Since visiting Volusia behind the wheel of a Beak Built Chassis, Zane Oedewaldt has reached heights he has never seen before 2025.
The Eustis, FL driver added a new accomplishment to his resumé with his first Discount Towing Showdown win in the Reutimann Memorial to gain himself a spot in Saturday’s finale.
Oedewaldt began the 15-lap Feature from Pole Position and took full control of the lead as Dalton Lanich and Josh Sanford followed the No. 11Z around the middle lane.
As Oedewaldt led, Lanich and Sanford raced side-by-side for multiple laps until the No. 3 Modified of Sanford outmatched Lanich around the cushion in Turns 3-4 to gain full possession of second place.
When Sanford owned the position, he bit away at Oedewaldt’s lead by 0.3 seconds each lap to reach his back bumper as the white flag waved. Despite Oedewaldt being stuck behind a lapped car in Turns 3-4, he held off Sanford to take the final checkered flag for the UMP Modifieds on Friday night.
“That would be huge,” Oedewaldt said regarding whether he wins on Saturday. “I mean, these guys come down, this is a (DIRTcar Nationals) crowd, and to be able to run with these guys is just amazing.
“I tell you what, we’d probably pull the motorhome down here, party all night down in the infield, and probably burn this place down. It’s such an honor, Buzzie, David, and all the Reutimanns. To be here and support them, it just means the world.”
Sanford will see Oedewaldt in the Redraw as Lanich, Wade Olmsted, and Billy Uptegraff took the final transfer positions available on Friday.
Showdown Feature 4 (15 Laps): 1. 11Z-Zane Oedewaldt[1]; 2. 3-Josh Sanford[2]; 3. 51-Dalton Lanich[4]; 4. 99W-Wade Olmsted[7]; 5. 10X-Billy Uptegraff[5]; 6. 71A-Andrew Smith[9]; 7. 80-Paul Shead[6]; 8. 99H-Justin Haley[3]; 9. 9-Ken Schrader[8]; 10. (DNS) 66-Joshua Kunstbeck
