Matt Caprara Returns to Super DIRTcar Series With Renewed Confidence

WEEDSPORT, N.Y.—Matt Caprara saw what it would take to run a full tour with the Super DIRTcar Series in 2024. Knowing he and his team weren’t ready at the time, they spent the last couple of years building up their program in preparation for a full-time run.
Now, he’ll return to the Series as an MD3 Rookie of the Year contender when the 2026 championship season opens at Georgetown Speedway for the Delaware Diamond on Saturday, March 28.
The most significant factor allowing Caprara to return to the Series this season is simple. More help.
“We’ve got Chris Fleming working on our stuff,” Caprara said. “He used to race at Brewerton, and Fulton, and all around there. It’s huge to have the help, especially with my work schedule. It’s kind of needed to have the help. Chris has been amazing, and he’s definitely looking forward to this year with us.
“That’s why we decided to do this. We got the help and felt like we had a decent year last year, and it’s the next step. If you want to get better, you’ve got to race with these guys on the Series.”
Not only has more crew helped pave the way for Caprara’s return, but so has gaining more experience in the past two seasons – both on and off the track. That gives him more confidence heading into the season, something he said he didn’t have in 2024.
“It’s not easy going on the road everywhere,” Caprara said. “Now I have a few more years in the business, so I’m a little more comfortable leaving to go race. It creates a little bit more freedom, but it’s not just that. I have a few years under my belt. It’s going to be a lot of trial and error, but we’re excited. The biggest thing is to just keep pushing forward.”
Caprara made sporadic starts with the Super DIRTcar Series over the last two years, all at tracks the tour will visit again this year.
However, the crowning achievement of his Modified career, so far, came at Brewerton Speedway last June when he earned his first Big Block Modified Feature win, holding off Series driver Darren Smith for the victory.
The win is a moment Caprara said gave him an edge, knowing he can beat some of the Series stars on any given night.
“That’s a Series race in itself at Brewerton every week,” Caprara said. “Getting a win there is huge. It kind of boosts our confidence that we can do it. And we can go win everywhere else. It’s just a matter of getting your T’s crossed and your I’s dotted. The biggest thing is just focusing on your program and getting it dialed in as much as you can.”
Along with joining the Super DIRTcar Series tour, Caprara also plans to race his 358 Modified weekly on Fridays at Can-Am Speedway. But when Can-Am takes the night off, he’ll return to Brewerton for more laps in a Big Block.
Saturdays will be a different story.
“Saturday is kind of free range for us to dial in our cars to get better at every track,” Caprara said. “We’ll be going to different tracks like [Land of Legends Raceway], to Brockville (Ontario Speedway), and into Canada some more. Just to fine-tune our race car to have a notebook.”
One of the things that enticed Caprara to return this year is the number of races in Northern New York and Canada. When the Beasts of the Northeast travel to those areas, Caprara won’t only be representing himself as a driver, but also as a businessman. Most of his family’s FX Caprara dealerships are in those regions.
“Being able to represent our dealerships in Northern New York and even in Canada, it’s huge,” Caprara said. “Dirt Modified racing is huge in those areas, and we can see that with the turnout in Canada, that it is huge, and that’s just something we need to hit on. I’m so excited to go north and be able to represent our company.”
