Double-X Speedway opens 2026 season this coming Sunday May 3
CALIFORNIA, Mo.—The wait is over. Double-X Speedway is set to kick off another thrilling season of dirt track racing on Sunday, May 3, 2026, bringing back the sights, sounds, and excitement that define Sunday Night Thunder in mid-Missouri.
Since 1989, Double-X Speedway has been a staple of grassroots racing, continuing a rich tradition that dates back to the days of Woody’s Speedway in the 1960s. Today, the quarter-mile, semi-banked clay oval remains a place where families, fans, and drivers come together for unforgettable summer nights.
Opening night will feature a full lineup of fan-favorite classes, including:
360 Winged Sprint Cars – delivering raw horsepower and high-speed intensity
Super Stocks – known for their door-to-door, side-by-side battles
B-Modifieds (B-Mods) – bringing a unique, action-packed open-wheel style
Fans can expect a full evening of entertainment with gates opening at 5:00 PM and hot laps beginning at 7:00 PM, setting the stage for a night of nonstop racing excitement.
Throughout the 2026 season, Double-X Speedway will also host several special events, including the fan-favorite “Tribute to Jesse,” “Race for Riley,” and the “Bill Utz Memorial Racing Back to School” event—each adding its own unique energy and meaning to the schedule.
More than just racing, Double-X Speedway is a place where memories are made—where kids become lifelong fans, where the community comes together, and where local businesses connect with a loyal and passionate audience.
