Reutzel dominates Bryan Clauson Hero Classic at Kokomo

KOKOMO, ind.—The Driven2SaveLives Bryan Clauson Hero Classic was supposed to be a two-day show, but thanks to mother nature, was a one day show for $20,000 and it did not disappoint!

The massive crowd was treated to a 40 lap thrill show around Indiana’s Baddest Bullring on a picture perfect day in central Indiana.

At the start of the 40 lap Bryan Clauson Hero Classic, it was Aaron Reutzel who fired the opening shot and stormed out to a lead. The initial start was short lived as a lap two red flag as Hank Davis sat on his side.

The race resumed with 38 to go with Brady Bacon storming the outside before the move was negated due to another lap two caution, due to a two car incident involving Tanner Holmes and Logan Seavey, stopping the action once again.

The green waved again and again it was the Ridge and Sons Racing #87 of Aaron Reutzel storming to the lead. Behind him a good battle for second was heating up as Peck ripped the top and moved into second.

As Reutzel hit lap traffic, his lead quickly began to shrink as Peck was on the rear bumper of the #87 before a red for Zach Hampton stopped the charge by the Rudeen Racing #26.

A longer green flag run necessitated the lap #8 red flag, and it was a great battle between the top four on an extremely racy and smooth Kokomo surface. Reutzel, Peck, Abreu, and Scelzi all ripped the top with extreme precision.

Rico Abreu, in the Tony Stewart Racing #24, took multiple stabs at Justin Peck before Peck nailed the top and pulled away. With the Peck machine becoming smaller in the distance, Brady Bacon was on the move and quickly moving in on Abreu.

The charge was short lived as Tyler Courtney hit an implement tire and collected the fourth place running Brady Bacon in turns one and two on Lap #27.

The green waved once more with 13 to go and it was once again a fierce battle for second with the slider line in high use around the Indiana oval. Peck continued to overcome attempt after attempt by the Abreu machine.

Up front, it was all Reutzel but with 10 to go, lap traffic would once again but a factor in the finish! So we thought, as another caution waved as Kerry Madsen and Tyler Courtney tangled in turns one and two. Creating a very rough night for the Clauson Marshall Racing #7BC.

The green once again was in the air with 7 to go and it was Justin Peck nailing the extremely treacherous cushion to the victory in the Driven2SaveLives Bryan Clauson Hero Classic presented by Chili’s.

It was Aaron Reutzel’s 11th career win and his first ever at the Kokomo Speedway. It was also Reutzel’s second straight win in Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing competition after securing the win last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway - Dirt Track.

Second place was Justin Peck, who for the second night in a row, was the bridesmaid in the Spring Race at the Kokomo Speedway.

In third, Rico Abreu, who continues to put together strong runs in his pursuit of another Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing championship.

Closing out the top-ten was Giovanni Scelzi, Joel Myers Jr, Chase Randall, Cale Thomas, Parker Price-Miller, Brady Bacon, and Daison Pursley.
