Kuykendall Grabs Heartland Late Model Tour Checkers at Legit Speedway
WEST PLAINS, Mo.—Saturday night at Legit Speedway in West Plains, Missouri the POWRi Mel Hambelton Racing Heartland Late Model Tour capped off the inaugural weekend with a great field of Super Late Models. Tyler Kuykendall picked up the win, advancing around Terry Phillips on the final lap.
“First time being here, I can't thank everyone enough who works hard on this car,” said Kuykendall in Wehrs Machine Victory Lane. “We put the motor in last night. My team gave me a great car, and they showed off tonight!”
Phillips finished in the runner up position, with Sawyer Crigler right behind those two in third. Crigler got out front early and led a large portion of the feature.
The Deatherage Opticians Fast Qualifier was Billy Moyer laying down a lap of 15.776.
Saturday's heat race wins went to Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips, Scott Crigler and Sawyer Crigler.
Supporting the Late Model action this weekend locally was Missouri Hardwoods and West Plains Resaw. Everyone with Heartland Promotions extends a huge thanks to those companies for their support of the event.
The next events for the Heartland Late Model Tour will be Friday, May 29th at Grain Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri and Saturday, May 30th at Moberly Motorsports Park in Moberly, Missouri.
A $40,000 point fund guaranteed, paying back ten positions, is in place for drivers who compete in 80 percent of the series scheduled events. $10,000 of the fund has been set aside for the inaugural champion.
