CALIFORNIA, Mo.—The lights were shining over the historic quarter-mile clay oval at Double X Speedway on Sunday night as Week #3 of the 2026 “Sunday Night Thunder” season delivered another action-packed evening of side-by-side dirt track racing.

Fans were treated to a full program featuring the 360 Winged Sprint Cars, Super Stocks, and B Modifieds as drivers battled each other in front of an enthusiastic crowd on a beautiful May evening.

In the headline division, the 360 Winged Sprint Cars put on another high-speed showcase with the high line proving to be the way around the track. Pole sitter Ben Brown took the early advantage using the top shelf with Jack Wagner and Jack Thomas in tow. The 7B and 77 machines would distance themselves from the field. Both were committed to the top shelf with Brown fighting a tight condition in turns one and two, Wagner would make a try on the bottom in three and four but would find Brown opening up a lead for the next several laps. Moving back to the top Wagner would steadily gain on the leaders until the duo encountered lapped traffic and Brown would again open up a six to eight car length lead over the 77. With the laps clicking by Wagner once again went to the top running down the 7B and trying the inside line the last two laps and the slide job on the last corner came up short and allowed Jack Thomas to slip past for second place. Jack Wagner would finish third. Chase Howard would cross the line in fourth and Garrett Benson would finish fifth.

The Super Stocks once again brought the fender-rubbing excitement fans have come to expect at Double X Speedway. With Darin Porter and John Clancy, Jr. on the front row by virtue of winning the heat races, the start was sure to be good as these two have many laps around the quarter mile oval. Porter would gain the early lead as Clancy would have to battle newcomer Mitchell Waters for the second position. Waters would take second on lap nine moving around Clancy on the top shelf to then set his sights on the leader Darin Porter. Clancy would move back to the bottom and challenge Water with Porter only a car length ahead. A caution on lap 12 bunched the field however on the restart the 21W of Waters lost momentum in turn one and coasting to a stop on the back stretch bringing out a caution. With the green waving, Clancy was right on the rear bumper of Porter. A string of cautions for spin outs kept the pace at a minimum as the field tried to restart. After one green flag lap another caution would set up a green, white, checker finish for the event.  Darin Porter survived heavy pressure throughout the feature event to claim the victory over a determined field.

The B Modified division continued its competitive 2026 campaign with another thrilling feature race. Alex Schultz and Colson Kirk brought the field to green. The end of lap one saw Kirk, Schultz and Tyler Potter come out of turn four three wide battling for the top spot with Kirk gaining the advantage. Kirk would lead until lap 5 when Potter would pass on the top shelf coming out of turn two to take the lead. From that point on it was all Tyler Potter in picking win number three on the season at Double X. Behind the leader Waylon Dimmitt was steadily moving up and battled past Alex Schultz to move into third and then waged a multi lap battle with Kirk for the number two spot. At the Checkers it was Kirk taking the runner up honors by a nose over Dimmitt who settled for third, Alex Schultz would take fourth and Chad Staus would complete the top five. Schultz and Kirk would win the heat races in the division.

Double X Speedway now turns its attention toward one of the most anticipated events of the season next Sunday, May 24, with the annual “Tribute to Jesse” Hockett Memorial presented by Wagner Boys Racing. The special evening honors the memory and legacy of Jesse Hockett, whose passion and impact on sprint car racing across the United Stated, but especially here at Double X, continues to be remembered throughout the Midwest racing community.

The event will feature the return of the Non-Wing Sprint Cars alongside the 360 Winged Sprint Cars,  Super Stocks and B-Mods for a can’t-miss night of open-wheel excitement on the legendary Double X clay. Pit gates will open at 5PM, grandstands at 5PM, with hot laps scheduled for 7P. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and tailgate in the parking lot for what is expected to be one of the biggest crowds of the season.
