Rain postpones Show-Me 100 opening feature until Friday night at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, Mo.—Mother Nature claimed the victory on opening night of the 34th annual Show-Me 100 Presented by Ace Doran Hauling and Rigging at Lucas Oil Speedway.
Rain began falling as the second B feature concluded and didn't relent for several hours.
Thursday's 45-lap main event, in honor of the late Allen "Cowboy" Chancellor, a long-time owner and promoter of the MLRA, will conclude Friday night's regularly scheduled program. The revised schedule for the Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson, founders of the Show-Me 100 at West Plains Motor Speedway, will find hot laps starting at 6 p.m., a half-hour earlier than originally scheduled.
Qualifying and heats follow prior to B-Mains and the feature. The Hickamo Super Stocks also will be in action with the Cowboy Classic feature wrapping the action.
A total of 51 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers checked into the pits. The three-night event, which culminates with Saturday’s $75,000-to-win, 100-lap main event, pays $10,000 to win the preliminary Late Model features. Drivers will accumulate points on their finishes both nights to help set the lineup for Saturday night's finale.
Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., was the Allstar Performance fast qualifier, with a time at 15.306 seconds out of Group A. Jonathan Davenport paced Group B at 15.347 seconds. Overton also won his heat race to grab the pole to start the feature with Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., starting alongside as Heat 3 winner.
