Jake Timm scores USMTS win at Hancock County
BRITT, Iowa—Drama unfolded Monday night at Hancock County Speedway as the Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com wrapped up its Memorial Weekend swing with a wild 40-lap main event.
Reece Solander opened the night by earning the Hodges Farms & Dredging LLC Quick Time Award before Brandon Davis, Jake Timm and Harley Dais captured heat race wins.
Rodney Sanders started from the Sybesma Graphics Pole and looked dominant early, leading the first 25 laps. But lapped traffic changed everything. Jake Timm tracked down “The Rocket” and made the move for the lead on lap 26. The two battled hard before Sanders suffered a flat tire, went to the work area, and later brought out another caution that ended his night.
From there, Timm took control and led the final 13 laps to score the $5,000 payday and his 12th career USMTS victory.
“That got pretty hairy battling it out with Rodney,” Timm said. “We may have touched tires. It’s always fun racing with Rodney. He’s aggressive, he’s clean, and honestly, I missed racing with him. I had a lot of fun out there tonight, and it was great to end the weekend with a USMTS win.”
Harley Dais charged back from ninth to finish second, while Tanner Mullens finished third after starting fourth. Reece Solander crossed the scales fourth but was disqualified for being 30 pounds light. Shadren Turner moved from eighth to fourth, and Jim Chisholm rounded out the top five after starting tenth.
Chevy Coleman earned the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger honors, coming from 16th to sixth. Brandon Davis brought out a lap-one caution, restarted at the tail, and battled back to finish seventh.
Tanner Mullens now carries a 21-point lead over Brandon Davis into the two-week break. Jim Chisholm sits third, 37 points back, followed by Rodney Sanders at 80 points behind and Reece Solander at 126 points out of the lead.
The USMTS returns June 4-6 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin, for a three-day show alongside the SLMR Late Models.
