Jake Timm outruns Tanner Mullins for USMTS Modified Masters prize
NEW RICHMOND, Wis.—A dramatic night of racing brought the curtain down on the 27th Annual Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway as the Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com delivered another memorable finish Saturday night in front of a tremendous crowd.
The final night of competition began with Hodges Farms & Dredging Qualifying, where Winona, Minnesota's Keith Foss topped the speed charts to earn the Hodges Farms & Dredging Quick Time Award, collecting an extra $100 and taking home the coveted JE Pistons Quick Time Trophy.
Heat race competition showcased several drivers making their mark as Calvin Iverson captured the Simpson Race Products Heat Race #1, Clayton Wagamon claimed Fast Shafts Heat Race #2 honors, Tanner Mullens won the Edelbrock Heat Race #3, and Jake Timm raced to victory in Wieland Metal Services Heat Race #4.
When it came time for the 40-lap main event, the Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com once again stole the show.
Fans witnessed drivers charging through the field, battling for every position and surviving a race filled with excitement, cautions, and adversity. In the end, it was Jake Timm who put together the drive of the night. Starting 11th on the grid, Timm methodically worked his way forward before taking control late in the race to earn the biggest victory of his USMTS career.
Timm led just eight of the 40 circuits, but they were the eight that mattered most as he crossed the finish line first to collect the $12,000 winner's check and become the 2026 Masters Champion.
For much of the night it appeared Tanner Mullens would be the driver standing in Victory Lane. Mullens led 31 laps and looked poised for the victory before Timm made his late-race charge. Mullens settled for a strong runner-up finish while maintaining his lead in the USMTS National Championship standings.
Six-time USMTS National Champion Rodney Sanders completed the podium in third, Brandon Davis continued his consistent season with a fourth-place finish, and Joe Chisholm earned FK Rod Ends Hard Charger honors after advancing to fifth.
Several drivers produced impressive drives through the field throughout the evening. Terry Phillips advanced from 25th to finish eighth, Joseph Thomas charged from 19th to 11th, Reece Solander climbed from 23rd to 12th, A.J. Hoff moved from 28th to 14th, and Gabe Hodges rallied from 24th to finish 15th.
The race was not without its share of drama.
A multi-car incident erupted on the front stretch when Calvin Iverson lost control of his No. 27X machine exiting Turn 4. The resulting chain reaction collected several contenders and brought the field to a halt.
Harley Dais suffered one of the hardest impacts of the evening as his No. 87H machine flipped onto its roof. Clayton Wagamon sustained significant damage and required a tow back to the pit area, while Jim Chisholm and Lance Mari also suffered race-ending damage in the incident.
Fortunately, all drivers involved were able to walk away from the accident, a testament to the safety equipment and race cars that continue to protect competitors in today's motorsports environment.
The Masters once again proved why it remains one of the premier crown jewel events on the USMTS schedule, producing two nights of outstanding racing and another unforgettable chapter in the event's rich history.
The Summit Racing Equipment USMTS presented by RacinDirt.com now turns its attention to the highly anticipated USMTS vs. UMP Challenge at Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois, on June 26-27. The event will feature some of the best Modified drivers from across the country battling for bragging rights between two of dirt racing's most recognizable sanctions.
Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for driver roster announcements, event updates, and additional information by following USMTS on Facebook and visiting the official website at www.usmts.com.
