Brett Moffitt sidelined after motocross accident

GMS Racing confirmed on Monday that Brett Moffitt is recovering from surgery after fracturing both legs in a motocross bike accident in North Carolina on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Grimes, Iowa, native currently drives the No. 23 GMS Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Gander RV Outdoors Truck Series.

Moffitt, who won the truck title in 2018 with Hattori Racing, is in his second season with the Maury Gallagher-owned team and his third-full year on the truck tour.

The team released a statement saying, “Moffitt is in very good spirits and his doctors expect a full recovery. Rehabilitation is estimated to take up to six to eight weeks. GMS Racing wishes Moffitt a full and speedy recovery and looks forward to his return.”

With NASCAR postponing races in wake of the Coronavirus, Moffitt should have additional time to recover. NASCAR is tentatively on hiatus through May 3rd. 

On Monday night, Moffitt tweeted: 

"Thanks for all the prayers, support and well wishes. We’ll get through this together. Thank you to the men and women at @AtriumHealth for taking good care of me the last couple of days. And thank you to @GMSRacingLLC. Can’t wait to get back in the truck in a couple of months!"

Moffitt is currently fourth in the truck standings. He’s also driven the first four NASCAR Xfinity Series races in the No. 02 Chevrolet. Moffitt posted top-15 results at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway.
