NASCAR released the fourth installment of the post-COVID-19 pandemic break schedule on Wednesday kicking off with a Cup doubleheader at Michigan on Aug. 8-9 and culminating the 26-race regular season at Daytona International Speedway on Aug. 29.
For the first time since NASCAR debuted at Daytona in 1959, the track will host stock cars on the 3.56-mile road course. The ARCA Menard’s Series will race on Friday, Aug. 14 followed by the Xfinity Series on Saturday and truck and Cup double-bill on Sunday.
“Daytona International Speedway has a storied history like no other in motorsports,” said Speedway President Chip Wile. “The sport of NASCAR gets to add a surprise chapter of road course racing to the venue’s legacy. Throughout the years, we have had many memorable moments with sports cars and motorcycles, but now NASCAR will take center stage on the road course at the World Center of Racing.”
NASCAR and IndyCar will be reunited at World Wide Technology Raceway the weekend of Aug. 29-30. WWT Raceway will host a triple-header including ARCA on Aug. 29 and a truck/IndyCar double feature on the 30th.
“Pulling it all together has taken three months of work with our sponsors, sanctioning bodies, local officials and staff,” said Curtis Francois, President and CEO of World Wide Technology Raceway. “We know that we will still be working lots of pieces of this logistical puzzle as we prepare for the event.
“We are blessed with a huge outdoor grandstand capacity and open-air midways that will enable us to social distance and provide a safe, responsible and comfortable event experience for the fans who are able to attend. Every possible effort will be made to ensure that our fans will enjoy another great racing experience at WWTR.”
Michigan International Speedway hosts a Cup doubleheader (Aug. 8-9) along with the Gander Outdoors Trucks (Aug. 7) and ARCA Menard’s Series (Aug. 9). That same weekend, the Xfintiy Tour rolls into Road America for its annual stop on the 4.048-mile road course at Elkhart Lake, Wisc., on Aug. 8.
Following the Daytona Road Course debut, the Monster Mile doubles up both Cup and Xfinity features on Aug. 22-23. The ARCA Menard’s East Series and trucks compete at Dover International Speedway on Friday, Aug. 21.
While Trucks headline the WWT show, Cup and Xfinity close out the regular season on the Daytona oval.
