Spire Motorsports to acquire Leavine Family Racing charter, assets

Spire Motorsports announced the completion of an agreement to purchase of the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing charter at season’s end.

In addition to the charter, Spire will acquire LFR’s race shop and all owned inventory in Concord, N.C. Under LFR’s current technical partnership all cars and chassis will be returned to Joe Gibbs Racing.

Spire Motorsports was formed in 2018 by Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchyr. The team is in its second season and currently fields the No. 77 Chevrolet with a variety of drivers including Reed Sorenson, J.J. Yeley, Garrett Smithley and Ross Chastain. Spire earned its first Cup win in its 18th start in the rain-shortened Daytona race last July with Justin Haley behind the wheel.

“This is an exciting moment for Spire as we take the natural next step in our long-term plan to build our race team and prepare for the Next Gen car in 2022,” said Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson. “Bob Leavine invested more than money into LFR and this industry. He built a team brick by brick and we have long admired how he took his own steps in the garage. He also did it with his family at his side. We won’t let that be lost in this transaction. When you build something with your family, it always means a little bit more. His ability to connect with fans was genuine and we are thankful he chose us to carry this team forward.
