Add Shane Golobic to the list of dirt demons looking to make their NASCAR Cup Series debut later this month at Bristol Motor Speedway.

In a joint venture with Live Fast Motorsports, Golobic’s open-wheel team owner Matt Wood has secured a chartered-seat for the affable 29-year-old in the Food City Dirt Race on March 28th.

Golobic will pilot the No. 78 Ford for his Cup coming out party.

“I believe every racer has dreamed of the opportunity to race in the NASCAR Cup Series, and the fact that it’s going to happen on dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway only makes it sweeter,” Golobic said. “This opportunity honestly fell into our lap out of nowhere, and it’s something you just can’t pass up.

“I am so thankful for everyone involved in making this happen, as well as everyone who has had a hand in helping me get to this point in my career. I hope to represent all of our supporters to the best of my ability, and I can’t wait to see what we can do on the dirt at Bristol.”

The Fremont, California native’s resume includes 83 feature wins between sprint cars and midgets. Golobic has scored victories with the World of Outlaws, USAC midgets as well as qualifying for eight Chili Bowl National A-Mains. He’s the 2015 and 2016 Trophy Cup Champion, 2014 Civil War Series Champion, 2012 and 2014 Ocean Speedway Champion, and 2009 Calistoga Speedway Champion.

Golobic competed in three NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts for Bill McAnally Racing in  2013. His best results came at Roseville and Bakersfield, where he finished eighth in both events. He currently pilots No. 17w NOS Energy Drink for Matt Wood Racing.

“I'm very excited for Shane,” Wood said. “Obviously, he knows his way around dirt. I think this will be an opportunity for him to showcase that talent on one of the World's biggest stages.

“I'm very proud of what we have accomplished with our Sprint Car and Midget program. This will be completely new experience for us. Hopefully, we can do more in the future with Matt, BJ and Live Fast Motorsports.”

Golobic will join Ryan Newman as the second driver with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Cup Series. He graduated from San Jose State University.

Golobic will be in good hands when dirt returns to Thunder Vally for the first time in 20 years. All Star Circuit of Champions four-time champion Frankie Kerr will guide Golobic’s maiden Cup voyage. Kerr’s 53 ASCOC wins rank sixth all-time. He 118 features over 18 seasons on more than nine different tours.

“We are so excited to work with Matt Wood and have Shane in the car at the Bristol dirt race," said Live Fast Motorsports co-owner, BJ McLeod. "The race itself is going to be nothing short of entertaining, so to have Shane behind the wheel of our car makes it even more special for us as a new NASCAR Cup Series team.”
