Raffurty, Browning, Boller, Clancy and Ross see US 36 Raceway Checkers First at The Joe Crist Memorial

Osborn, MO —  MCA Mod Lite started the Joe Crist Memorial with a bang as heat race winner Justin Raffurty #75 would take the lead with a field of stout competitors chasing. Justin Raffurty would lead the majority of the feature until other heat race winner Dillon Raffurty #46 charged through the pack and passed Justin with only three laps remaining in the feature. Dillon would then cruise to Nextran Victory Lane and capture the win with Justin Raffurty a close second with newcomer to US 36 Scott Bailey #21 placing a solid and impressive third on the night. Fourth place would belong to another new racer to 36 as William Nobles #8N with the always fast and present Michael Raffurty #41 rounding out the night’s top five.

E-Modifieds were the next to tackle the fast smooth three eight’s mile of dirt with heat race winners Coleman Browning #21K and Blake Hayes #14H squaring off in the front of the field. Hayes would dive to the inside but could not stop Browning’s drive off the top of the speedway as the two would go side-by-side in the early laps. Coming back to the racing circuit, P J Conger #13 would make his presence felt passing cars and challenging Browning for the front. Casey Burnett #23B would find his fast high line and work through the pack to challenge late. A late race caution would set up a green, white, checker finish with Browning holding off the fast Conger to pick up the feature win with Conger having to settle for second and Burnett third. Hayes would fade slightly to finish fourth with the always top five and win contender Kevin Rash #07 ending the night fifth.

With 31 Pure Stocks checked in for the “Big Roy” Shootout, 24 would make the feature and compete on the highest level. Heat race winner Todd Luke #2ok would flex his muscle early and appear to be the car to beat setting a blistering pace. Contact among drivers would mix up the field on the first lap creating a complete restart with Luke again taking the advantage. Jakub Hisel #27 and Jon Boller Jr #20X would battle behind Luke with Boller sliding into second. Boller Jr would make the move on Luke to take the front and hold off the likes of Hisel and a charging Anthony Whitham #26 in the closing laps. Boller Jr would pick up his 150th win of his illustrious career and 47 Pure Stock wins in a row as he celebrated in Nextran Victory Lane. Hisel, who was strong all night would place second with Whitham third and Luke and impressive fourth and Marshall Cramer #24C fifth. Other heat race winners were Trevor Hittle #31M, Dale Eaton #63 and Tyler Starmer #11S. B Feature winners Alvie Christofferson #771 and Bo Eads #95 would transfer to the A.

USRA B-Mods would have a hard act to follow but were up to the task racing fast and furious. Stephen Clancy #12C would take the front with Kyle Russell #15 challenging every lap until Russell would lose a wheel in turn four almost flipping but staying on all four wheels taking him from contention. Heat race winners Clancy and Daniel Harris #07 would do battle lap after lap with Clancy maintaining the lead. Sturgis Streeter #61 was fast all feature holding off the charge of Shadren Turner #56 in the closing laps. Clancy would pick up win number two in as many weeks with Harris a close second and Streeter third. Fourth place would go to Turner with Chris Wright coming home fifth on the night.

IMCA/USRA Stock Cars would roar to the racing surface with one of the greatest and most talented field of competitors you will witness on planet earth. Heat race winners Mich Ross #34X, Tim Eaton #63, Nate Desive #31K and Jesse Vanlaningham #72V would all battle fast and furious in the front of the field with Ross gaining the advantage. Ross and Randy Smith Jr #75X would battle for the front as Mike Nichols #63 and Shadren Turner #21X would do battle throughout the pack. Nichols would work traffic to perfection challenging Ross getting to his door on several occasions and taking the lead only to see Ross roar back by on the high side. These two gladiators would race clean and hard to the checkers with Nichols trying both high and low on Ross to no avail. Ross would pick up the biggest win and paycheck of his career parking in Nextran Victory Lane. Ross will now place his name among the elite as winner of the illustrious Joe Crist Memorial. Nichols would come home second with Smith Jr third and Turner fourth. Big mover of the race was Jason Estes #997 who would win the B feature and race from the back of the pack to place fifth on the night.

Joe Crist Memorial would not be complete without the running of the annual HWY 36 Auto and Diesel/Shocker Chassis 6pk Shootout. Fans voted in their favorite Pure Stock Drivers, and it came down to one-on-one competition. The Starmer brothers, Jake and Tyler would prove to be the cars to beat setting blistering times around the track. In the end, Jake Starmer #11J would defeat last years winner and older brother Tyler for the win and claim the $400 and traveling trophy fully stocked with beverage. Special thanks to Shocker Chassis, Blake, Jim and Nellie Peeler for making this race possible. Congratulations to Brittney Crouch and Sean Gomez as their names were drawn and each received $50 for playing. Other competitors selected by the fans were Alvie Christofferson, Anthony Whitham, Ava Dixon, and Jakub Hisel.
US 36 Raceway would like to thank the entire Crist Family, all drivers and fans for a great night of racing and family fun at the 7th Annual Joe Crist Memorial.
