Justin Zeitner wins Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial at Corning

Corning, IA —  The career season for Justin Zeitner continued as he ran a flawless race in Saturday’s visit to the Adams County Speedway for the Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial.

The big half-mile at the Adams County Fairgrounds hosted the Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series and the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series for the second running of the Gail and Karen Memorial. The race marked round 14 for both tours on the 2023 season.

East Series Point Leader Chad Holladay started off the night setting the night’s top lap in qualifying when he stopped the watch at 20.194 seconds. The four heat races were won by Dylan Sillman, Matt Ryan, Bill Leighton Jr., who came back from restarting in the back, and Andy Eckrich.

After Corey Zeitner and Josh Leonard won the two B-Features, a 26-car field was assembled to battle it out in the 30-lap finale. Justin Zeitner started on the pole with Jaxon Saathoff on the outside in his Adams County Speedway Late Model debut.

The race was only stopped one time on lap three when Bill Leighton Jr. and Jason Hahne went around in turns three and four. Leighton would battle back to finish 16th while Hahne finished 22nd.

The race went green the rest of the way. Justin Zeitner ran away with the show as the Malvern, Iowa driver was able to maneuver lapped traffic with ease. Meanwhile, a tight battle for second, third and fourth ensued between Andrew Kosiski, Dylan Sillman and Chad Holladay.

Zeitner consistently was the fastest car on the race track and kept plenty of distance and lapped cars between himself and the rest of the leaders. Zeitner led all 30 laps to capture his second consecutive victory in the Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial. The win was his sixth win of the season and the 14th of his career.

Dylan Sillman scored his career best finish at Adams County with a second-place finish while Andrew Kosiski came in third after running second for most of the race. Chad Holladay came in fourth while Kyle Berck rounded out the top five.

With the Hampel Memorial in the record books, the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series will be back in action for the re-scheduled Dale DeFrance Memorial at Marshalltown Speedway on August 4th. The very next night, it’s another East vs. West showdown at the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona, Iowa.
